Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other.
Kettle Coordinator II position is a short-term contract position. The incumbent is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets.

Responsibilities: 

  • In collaboration with the Manager of Integrated Mission and the Kettle Campaign Committee, gives direct oversight to the Ministry Unit’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. 

  • Working with the Operations Manager and Manager of Integrated Mission, assists in the recruitment and selection of Kettle team members. 

  • Provides orientation and ongoing supervision of Kettle team members (employees and volunteers), including drivers, kettle hosts, and volunteers. 

  • Plans and leads Kettle orientation/training session(s) with the help of other staff members. 

  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator, works diligently to grow the volunteer base for the Kettle Campaign (both individuals and groups) and deploys volunteers effectively. 

  • Comfortable and proficient in communicating regularly by phone with stakeholders (volunteers, host sites, workers, and other community partners). 

  • Coordinates schedules for kettle hosts, responding to emergencies and absences, etc. 

  • Effectively trouble-shoots kettle schedules to ensure maximum coverage so that Campaign goals are realized or exceeded. 

  • Ensures needed Kettle Campaign supplies are created/ordered/secured in a timely manner and stocked at locations on a daily or as-needed basis. 

  • Requests required insurance certificates for kettle locations to The Salvation Army’s divisional headquarters and provides certificates to kettle locations’ official contacts. 

  • Oversees relationships with host locations, coordinates Campaign scheduling, and ensures appropriate/meaningful thanks is extended to supporting organizations during the Campaign. 

  • Orders, receives, and implements the use of Tip Tap machines for the duration of the Campaign and packs and returns within specified deadline. 

  • Coordinates the delivery, set up and take down of kettle stands, buckets and Tip Tap machines. 

  • Coordinates drop-offs and pick-ups of all kettles/buckets daily during the Campaign, in accordance with established schedules. 

  • Records statistical data and timesheets for income reporting and payroll functions. 

  • Performs other job-related duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:   

  • The incumbent’s work environment is an office setting and off site in the community during the kettle campaign. 

  • The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:  

  • Stressful situations, including dealing with erratic and sometimes antagonistic behaviors 

  • Verbal abuse 

  • Work schedule affecting lifestyle  

  • Local travel required for Kettle Campaign.  

  • The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illness due to: 

  • Physical attacks by others  

  • Exposure to infectious diseases 

  • Sharp objects 

  • Driving in winter weather (heavy rainfall, sometimes snowy conditions) 

  • Moderate physical exertion causing fatigue; required to lift up to 40 pounds. 

  • The performance of the job requires frequently interacting with guests, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.

Education and Experience Qualifications 

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:   

  • Completion of a high school diploma plus a formal certificate program or specialized courses is required. 

  • First Aid level 1 and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training are assets. 

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements   

  • Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driving record are required. 

  • The incumbent must have a minimum of two years of related experience. 

  • Previous fundraising and supervisory experience is an asset. 

  • Experience working with and leading volunteers will be an asset.  

  • Experience using Salesforce for managing volunteers is a strong asset. 

Skills and Capabilities:  

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. 

  • Work in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. 

  • Strong communication skills – written and interpersonal, with the ability to make and communicate decisions and work on a collaborative team. 

  • Organizational skills – attentive to details, scheduling, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment that requires daily problem-solving. 

  • Technological skills – Microsoft Office and Salesforce. 

  • Integrity – High standard of integrity, judgement, confidentiality, and trustworthy management of funds. 

  • Patience and ability to de-escalate situations. 

  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public. 

  • Adaptability and adept at dealing with frequent interruptions. 

  • Willingness to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

  •  Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

 

Hours of Work 

  • Before Christmas campaign: 35 hrs/wk, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm from September up to mid-November. 

  • During Kettle campaign: Up to 40 hrs/wk, Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm-8pm or 12:30pm-8:30pm from mid-November to December 24th. 

  • Flexibility on work schedule throughout the Christmas Kettle Campaign. 

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
