Job Description
ABOUT MIQ
We're MiQ, a global programmatic media partner for marketers and agencies. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, so you will be too. No matter the role or the location, we're all united in the vision to lead the programmatic industry and make it better.
ABOUT DATABREW
DataBrew is a team that focuses on researching & future-proofing MIQ’s Data and AI Platform — the engine behind our Data & AI modernisation programme. We work across the lakehouse platform, ingestion infrastructure, data quality frameworks, pipeline observability, and the governance layer that makes MiQ's data trustworthy and AI-ready. Our work touches every part of MiQ's data ecosystem. We don't chase shiny tools. We map where scale breaks first — and turn what we learn into reusable design principles any team at MiQ can build on.
We're in the middle of a significant platform evolution — migrating off legacy systems, adopting declarative pipeline architectures, building self-healing data workflows, and establishing the quality and governance standards that will power MiQ's AI ambitions. Joining DataBrew means working at the intersection of modern data ecosystems and real business impact.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Innovation and R&D: A forward-thinking mindset with a passion for exploring new data technologies, continuously seeking ways to enhance platform capabilities and efficiency
Data Ingestion Modernisation - Replace brittle, manual ingestion with declarative, scalable pipelines as legacy platforms are retired and cut onboarding turnaround and engineering complexity
Untapped Lakehouse Features: Put the platform’s underused, modern capabilities to work and adopt a shift-data-quality-left mindset
Look Beyond Databricks: Evaluate and integrate best-fit technology per workload rather than defaulting to a single vendor.
Dataset Observability: Make pipeline and data health observable and strengthen discoverability, lineage, and governance so datasets are trustworthy and easy to consume.
Rising Costs & Quality Control: Proactively design cost efficiency into storage and compute and embed consistent quality and reliability standards so data trust scales with volume.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Core Requirements
2–4 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1 year building data pipelines or platform infrastructure.
Strong analytical skills, with a solution-oriented approach to overcoming technical challenges and finding innovative solutions for complex data problems.
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; hands-on experience with PySpark or Spark SQL in a production environment.
Solid understanding of distributed computing fundamentals — how Spark executes, partitioning, shuffles, joins, and memory management.
Experience with a lakehouse or data warehouse platform — Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg — table formats, schema evolution, time travel, and merge operations.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure on AWS — S3, IAM, EC2/EMR basics, and how data moves between services.
Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Good to Have
Exposure to Databricks Platform and features like Delta Live Tables (DLT), Databricks Workflows, Autoloader, Data Contracts and Orchestration
Experience with data quality frameworks — Great Expectations, Soda, DQX, or custom rule engines.
Familiarity with Unity Catalog, data cataloguing, or metadata management tools.
Working knowledge of event-driven architectures, streaming ingestion, or real-time data processing.
Experience with an OO language (Java, Kotlin, Scala) for microservice or API development.
We’ve highlighted some key skills, experience and requirements for this role. But please don’t worry if you don’t meet every single one. Our talent team strives to find the best people. They might see something in your background that’s a fit for this role, or another opportunity at MiQ. If you have a passion for the role, please still apply
WHAT IMPACT YOU’LL CREATE
You will drive foundational change across MiQ’s data ecosystem by shipping a modern ingestion platform that retires legacy infrastructure and enables self-serve onboarding at scale. Your work will elevate data quality from reactive firefighting to automated, contract-enforced governance for Tier-1 and Tier-2 pipelines, while directly advancing the company's Data & AI Maturity KR through high-impact contributions reviewed by leadership. Throughout this process, you will embed cost discipline into platform design . Ultimately, this role will be instrumental in transforming data into a strategic asset, fostering a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU
Our Centre of Excellence is the very heart of MiQ, and it’s where the magic happens. It means everything you do and everything you create will have a huge impact across our entire global business.
