Overview

The Export Control Officer will be part of our Export Control Compliance team, providing support, guidance and advice to the UK business on export control regulations and matters relating to operational requirements.

As our business continues to develop its global activities, customer base and partnerships, effective export control and sanctions compliance is increasingly important. In this role, you’ll work with colleagues across the business to help manage export control requirements, apply appropriate compliance controls and enable teams to meet their objectives in a compliant manner.

You’ll support the monitoring of export control regulations across the countries in which we operate, including those relating to nuclear and military activities, and work collaboratively with colleagues to understand and manage their impact on the business.

Working within the wider Legal team, you’ll have the opportunity to build your knowledge and contribute to the continued development of export control compliance across the UK business.

Your Role

• As an Export Control Officer, you’ll support the delivery of day-to-day export control and sanctions activities, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
• Support the monitoring of UK and international export control regulations, including those relating to nuclear and military activities, and help colleagues understand how these requirements apply to their work.
• Provide practical guidance and support on export control and sanctions matters, working alongside colleagues to address operational requirements.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of our export control and sanctions policies, processes and controls, helping to identify opportunities to strengthen compliant ways of working.
• Assist with the management and administration of export control authorisations, including applications, associated documentation and processes to support compliance with authorisation conditions.
• Support compliance activities including denied-party screening, technology segregation and access permissions relating to US regulatory obligations.
• Work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders across different functions to identify and address export control requirements.
• Support training and communications to build understanding and awareness of export control and sanctions requirements across the organisation.
• Help identify, resolve and prevent non-conformances, supporting appropriate corrective actions, improvements and disclosures where required.
• Contribute to specialist technical areas, projects and Communities of Practice, with opportunities to develop and share your export control knowledge.

About You

• You’ll bring knowledge or practical experience of export control and compliance, alongside a willingness to learn, collaborate and help colleagues navigate regulatory requirements.
• An understanding of UK export control regulations and how they may apply within a business environment.
• Knowledge of, or an interest in developing knowledge of, US export control regulations and their potential impact on business activities.
• The ability to understand regulatory requirements and support their translation into practical business processes, controls and ways of working.
• Knowledge or experience of export control and sanctions activities, such as export authorisations, denied-party screening and technology segregation.
• An understanding of the importance of identifying and appropriately managing non-compliance and associated risks.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships and communicate regulatory requirements clearly to different audiences.
• Export control and sanctions training, such as ECJU training, or equivalent knowledge of UK and US export control regulations, would be beneficial.
• Knowledge or experience in compliance, business controls and process improvement, risk management, non-compliance management or nuclear export control regulations would also be beneficial.
• Most importantly, you’ll bring a collaborative, curious and considered approach, with an interest in developing your knowledge and using it to help colleagues understand their responsibilities, manage risk and achieve business objectives in a compliant manne

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
