Position Summary
The Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising hourly production employees to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This role oversees daily production activities, enforces safety and quality standards, manages labor and workflow, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to meet production schedules and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of hourly manufacturing employees
- Assign work, set priorities, and adjust staffing to meet production schedules
- Enforce safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
- Conduct safety observations and address unsafe behaviors immediately
- Monitor production output, efficiency, scrap, and rework
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, drawings, specifications, and work instructions
- Review and approve employee time, attendance, and overtime as required
- Train, coach, and develop employees on job skills, safety, and performance expectations
- Conduct performance feedback, disciplinary actions, and corrective coaching in accordance with company policy
- Support preventive maintenance and housekeeping initiatives
- Communicate production goals, expectations, and changes to employees
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees
- Escalate production, safety, or personnel issues to management as needed
- Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and cost-reduction initiatives
Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience supervising hourly craft or production employees is preferred
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, fabrication, or assembly
- Strong understanding of safety practices in an industrial setting
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, work instructions, and production schedules
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
- Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
- Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Work Environment
Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
