Doernbecher Pediatric Acute Care Surgical (PACS)

Function/Duties of Position

PACS-9S is a people-centered, interdisciplinary, team-based system of coordinated patient care.  The team will provide individualized, excellent care for all pediatric patients by working together with departments and specialists across Doernbecher and OHSU to ensure every patient and family receive the right care, at the right place and at the right time by the right people.

 

Department Summary/Patient Populations: 

  • 9S Pediatric Acute Care Surgical is a 24-bed unit providing evidence-based, acute care for pediatric patients and their families from birth to young adulthood. Services that admit to DCH PACS include and are not limited to:
    • General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Urology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, and General Peds overflow.
  • The PACS nurses partner in care with clinicians, dieticians, OT/PT services, pain services, social work, case managers, child life, school teachers, and pharmacists to provide children with the best possible individualized care.

 

Department Specific Working Conditions:

  • Efficient time management, flexibility, and prioritization skills to provide excellent patient and family centered care in a high patient turnover unit
  • Required to keep up to date with departmental communications by e-mail, weekly updates, and unit huddles at the beginning of each shift
  • May be required to transport and provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations off-unit to meet patient specific needs

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • PALS
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years inpatient pediatric RN experience
    • Pediatric cardiac experience preferred
    • Pediatric surgical experience preferred
  • CPN certification or other applicable pediatric specialty certification

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – New Graduate Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.

 

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
