About the Department of Psychology

The Cross-College Department of Psychology spans The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Cornell Human Ecology (CHE) and is recognized for excellence in advancing knowledge of psychological science. We focus on the investigation of behavior and its cognitive, neural, and hormonal underpinnings in the full range of environmental situations. Our strengths are in four broadly defined areas of development, cognition, neuroscience, and social and personality psychology. We develop and conduct theoretical and translational research to advance health and well-being.

Cognitive Science is an interdisciplinary program with ~60 affiliated faculty from eleven academic departments (Psychology, Computer Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, Neurobiology and Behavior, Information Science, Mathematics, Linguistics, Romance Studies, Design and Environmental Analysis, and Economics). Cognitive Science is currently offered as a graduate minor (~40 students) and an undergraduate major (~65 students) or minor (~45 students).

The Moral Psychology program at Cornell is also an interdisciplinary academic area that welcomes students with diverse majors and interests who share a strong curiosity and concern about humankind, and a motivation to apply both humanistic and scientific lenses to age-old questions about human behavior. The Minor in Moral Psychology (~40 students currently) will identify and centralize relevant coursework from across Cornell so that students may create an academic plan for their moral psychology studies that builds on their strengths and interests; and offer unique research and community engagement opportunities that bring moral psychology to life.
