Description
GFT is seeking a Sr. Structural Engineer to join our Buildings and Places Structural Team in our Mechanicsburg, Valley Forge, or Philadelphia, PA office! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our office.
At GFT, the structural team is dedicated to creating efficient, innovative solutions for structural systems, ensuring comfort and sustainability in every project. Our team contributes to a resilient and sustainable built environment, pushing the boundaries of building system design and optimizing performance while addressing the unique needs of each facility. GFT supports heavy construction projects that require unique problem solving, design of specialized equipment, and development of complex phasing. We also provide traditional design services for buildings, transit stations, industrial facilities, tunnels, water/wastewater facilities, and dam structures. Our structural engineers deliver value through innovative solutions and quality designs, utilizing building information modeling for collaboration through design and construction.

What you’ll be challenged to do:
This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Sr. Structural Engineer who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on a diverse range of building and infrastructure projects while working closely with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, and junior engineering staff. Successful candidates will have demonstrated professional experience in structural engineering. Projects will include design and technical leadership for a wide variety of buildings, transit stations and associated facilities, industrial facilities, and water/wastewater structures.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Lead, perform, and review structural design and analysis calculations.
- Prepare construction plans for a wide variety of building/vertical and infrastructure structures.
- Develop contract documents such as plans, details and specifications.
- Perform structural calculations in accordance with applicable building codes, material standards, and authority having jurisdiction requirements.
- Review construction phase documents such as shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and contractor requests.
- Perform structural observations and field investigations on site for existing and new structures.
- Prepare summary and detailed reports using clear and succinct writing.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Develop and review structural analysis models using appropriate engineering software.
- Serve as structural discipline lead or project engineer, as appropriate, and coordinate structural design activities with other engineering disciplines, architects, clients, and contractors.
- Perform technical reviews and quality control of structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and other deliverables.
- Support client coordination and proposal development, as appropriate.
- Assist with planning and coordination of structural scope, schedule, staffing, and deliverables.
What you will bring to our firm:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is required.
- PE required.
- Minimum of 8 years of structural engineering experience involving buildings and/or infrastructure facilities, including industrial, water/wastewater, transportation/transit, institutional, federal, or similar projects.
- Experience with one or more structural analysis and design platforms such as RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, TEDDS, or similar software.
- Experience with Revit and working in a BIM environment.
- Broad knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices related to structural analysis and design.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, technology, material standards, design concepts, and construction techniques.
- Organized self-starter with ability to manage multiple assignments and adjust priorities based on project and client needs.
What we prefer you bring:
- Experience leading structural design efforts on multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
- Experience with project management, client coordination, and/or proposal development.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $155,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
