About the Role
Total Wine & More is seeking a detail-oriented, process-driven Associate Buyer to join our growing Merchandising team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, the Associate Buyer supports the Wine buying team to drive sales volume and achieve margin targets while managing critical processes and data maintenance. The position owns the end-to-end new item process from setup to execution, ensuring accurate data entry, system updates, and compliance. Additional responsibilities include supply management, developing reports and providing analysis on assortment, inventory, replenishment, and vendor performance. This role works closely with Compliance, Suppliers, Supply Chain, Concierge and stores to support business initiatives and ensure alignment with strategic goals. The ideal candidate is highly organized, process-focused, and comfortable managing large volumes of data with precision. Strong relationship-building skills are essential to collaborate effectively across teams. You will
- Own the end-to-end new item process; from item creation to coordination with compliance, supply chain and master data through to in-store execution
- Maintain item master data at a high standard of accuracy, including vintage rollover, discontinuations, cost changes, and attribute updates across a large and constantly changing item base
- Write and place stock requests, working within allocation constraints and long import lead times
- Build and maintain recurring reporting on assortment, inventory position, replenishment, and supplier performance.
- Partner with suppliers and Compliance on label registration, product approvals, and state-level requirements to keep items sellable and on time
- Organize and manage concierge process and coordination
- Support the buying team with sampling logistics, pricing setup, and item projections
- Leverage interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the business
You will come with
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 0-2 years of retail buying, planning, allocation, merchandising operations, or supply chain experience preferred
- Strong understanding of Excel (Pivot tables, VLookups, Xlookups) and confidence cleaning and reconciling large system exports
- Basic understanding of SQL queries, and using them to extrapolate data
- Demonstrated comfort with high-volume, detail-critical data work where an error has visible downstream consequences
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and attention to detail
- Clear, persistent communication; comfortable addressing and escalating issues
- Must excel at keeping tasks, tight deadlines, and stakeholders aligned, and you bring structure to fast-paced or evolving environments
