Description

Job Title: Skills Development Coach - Carpentry and Joinery 
Department: Apprenticeships 
Salary:  £33,302 - £36,376
Job Type: permanent, full time 35 hours

To inspire, motivate, coach and nurture future engineers within a range of Construction trades.
Support apprentices to develop knowledge, skills & behaviors in preparation for end point assessment. The role will involve classroom/workshop-based training along with travel to a range of employer premises.


Key Responsibilities

  1. To develop, maintain and account manage relationships with local employers.
  2. To deliver high quality apprenticeships by carrying out workplace assessment and delivering underpinning knowledge and support within the Construction in particular carpentry and joinery workshops.
  3. To provide ongoing training and assessment so learners are fully prepared for their End Point Assessment.
  4. To screen potential new employers to ensure they have a clear understanding of the obligations in respect of apprentices and at the same time complete appropriate paperwork.
  5. To support employers to offer sufficient opportunities for apprentices to develop their skills and demonstrate their competency in all areas.
  6. To take an active part in the recruitment of new apprentices through contact with local employers – managing key accounts, schools and through events. You will be responsible for securing a caseload sufficient to hit your targets.
  7. To complete all required information under the projects to include Initial Assessment and Individual Learning Plan for each apprentice and to regularly review progress against this with the apprentice and their employer to ensure that they remain on track to achieve their qualification timely and to provide swift intervention where students are at risk of falling behind.
  8.  To ensure that you achieve all targets within the agreed timescale.
  9. Ensure timely, accurate and comprehensive progression, performance and target information is maintained using the College’s e-portfolio (Smart Assessor) system for apprenticeship delivery.
  10. To support the Construction trade course review, lead internal verification and manage external verification procedures within the area alongside Head of Apprenticeships and the relevant Curriculum Teams.

  • To support cross college activities as required during the key enrolment and invigilation periods.
  • Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria
  1. Level 3 qualification in Construction specific trades such as Carpentry and Joinery and plastering property maintenance  
  2. Experience of working in Construction industry  
  3. Excellent organisational skills  
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with students, employers & colleagues  
  5. Is willing to work flexibly, including evenings when required.  
  6. Holds a current driving license and has access to their own vehicle.  
  7. Willingness to develop knowledge & skills of safeguarding practices
