Job Description Summary

**Position pays: $20 an hour.

This position requires an 18–19-year-old individual to act as an Underage Purchaser to ensure retailers are not selling tobacco or nicotine products to people under the minimum legal sale age.

The ideal candidate is a responsible and motivated student with a flexible schedule and a strong interest in public health, regulatory compliance, and/or criminal justice. This individual is outgoing, organized, and dependable, with the ability to follow detailed procedures accurately. They are comfortable interacting with members of the public in a professional and respectful manner and can represent the agency with integrity. The ideal candidate is also able to maintain confidentiality while contributing to important public health and safety efforts.

The hours of this temporary part-time position are highly flexible and will fluctuate from 0-20 hours per week depending on assigned inspections and availability of the underage purchaser. Work will occur outside of school hours and may include evenings, Saturdays, and time over school breaks.

This position is for a current student ONLY. Only applicants with a current student status will be considered.

Compliance Checks - 100%

  • Conducts compliance checks in tobacco and nicotine product retail locations.
  • Participates in trainings as required.
  • Maintains professional demeanor at all times.
  • Acts as a positive role model for others.
  • Ability to keep information confidential.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Young adults age 18-19 only.
  • Must be a current student with an active student status.
  • Non-tobacco / nicotine user.
  • Desire to encourage underage youth from using nicotine.
  • Experience in community service.
  • Available afternoons, evenings, and some weekends.
  • This position will require initiative and flexibility. Some paperwork may be required, so basic writing, typing, spelling, and reading comprehension is needed to fulfill this position.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Submit a resume AND cover letter.

This position is non- exempt (Compensation to determine FLSA status) from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
