Nurse Pre Post Procedure Unit

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our full time day Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre-Post Procedure Unit, you will help inpatient and outpatient procedural patients navigate the recovery process so they can transition safely and comfortably to discharge. This department recovers GI, MRI, IR, Cath Lab and PACU phase 2 patients and operates Monday thru Friday from 0600-1900.

Every day you will leverage your clinical expertise to conduct comprehensive patient assessments and facilitate the high-volume flow of our 15-bed recovery unit. You will be expected to perform skilled clinical interventions, maintain meticulous medical documentation, and collaborate seamlessly with our interdisciplinary team to ensure that all procedural preparations—from admission to recovery—meet the highest standards of safety and care.

You should be a proactive communicator who is comfortable utilizing advanced medical technology and eager to take on leadership responsibilities, such as precepting new staff and serving as a reliable resource to your peers.

• Assessment: Performs patient assessment based on diagnosis, cultural and spiritual beliefs, age functional status, psychosocial needs, and/or developmental stage prior to entering the procedural area. Verifies all components of Universal Protocol with patient/caregiver and medical record, to include appropriate marking of site/side by surgeon, if required.
• Care of patient: Plans and implements care based on periprocedural assessment, integrating the plan of care prior to transporting patient to the procedural area. Using critical thinking skills, prioritizes and organizes care within allotted timeframes and evaluates nursing care and provides patient/caregiver with education.
• Clinical/Technical Skills: Utilizes technology, procedures, standards and interventions specific to the associated department.
• Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation systems. Accurate completion of timecard exception logs, call back slips and missed lunch/break log according to policy. Verifies all required elements of chart and electronic medical record are present prior to taking patient to the procedural area i.e. H&P, consents, etc.
• Leadership: Accepts responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors. Recognizes, accepts and cooperates with direction from facility leadership. Takes charge as assigned in absence of Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Collaborates with care team members to identify approaches for problem solving. Supports and role models teamwork to promote positive relationships/working environment.
• Precepting/Mentoring: Participates in orientation of new staff, ancillary personnel and mentors students and team members in a constructive and positive manner. Serves as a resource to staff from other nursing departments.

Job Requirements

Required 

 

• Minimum one (1) year RN experience in critical care, PACU, Ambulatory Observation Unit or similar experience.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association
• Become competent in Sheath pulling within six (6) months of hire.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school

 

Preferred

 

• Two (2) years of adult critical care nursing experience
• Experience with post cardiac interventional / interventional radiology patients
• Skills related to laboratory and x-ray order entry and online documentation
• Sheath management and removal experience
