About the Team

Global Catalog

Global Catalog sits at the heart of Walmart's commerce ecosystem, powering product experiences across online and in-store journeys for millions of customers worldwide. It enables suppliers and sellers to efficiently create and manage product experiences while helping customers discover, evaluate, and purchase products with confidence. By powering high-quality product information, rich content, and intelligent commerce experiences, Catalog plays a critical role in connecting customers, suppliers, and sellers across one of the world's largest retail platforms. As Walmart continues to transform retail through people, technology, and AI, Global Catalog is helping shape the future of commerce through innovative capabilities that serve customers, suppliers, sellers, and associates around the world.

The Group Director will be based in the Bengaluru office and will play a key leadership role in shaping the technology strategy and execution for Global Catalog. Working closely with peer engineering leaders, this individual will deliver strategic initiatives, help advance catalog capabilities, and contribute to platform transformation and innovation while partnering with senior stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Business, and Data Science.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of senior engineering leaders, architects, and technologists responsible for building and evolving key Global Catalog capabilities across product data, content, quality, seller enablement, and platform services.

  • Define and execute the technology strategy and roadmap for key areas within Global Catalog, ensuring alignment with Walmart's business priorities, commerce strategy, and AI transformation agenda.

  • Lead strategic initiatives that contribute to the evolution of Catalog into a SaaS-like platform by enabling scalable, self-service capabilities, reusable services, APIs, and platform foundations that accelerate innovation across the enterprise.

  • Partner closely with Product, Business, and Data Science leaders to identify opportunities, prioritise investments, and deliver measurable outcomes for customers, sellers, merchants, and associates.

  • Influence senior stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Business, Data Science, and Operations organisations, building alignment and driving execution of strategic initiatives across a complex global ecosystem.

  • Balance long-term strategic platform and architectural investments with short-term business objectives, ensuring sustainable technology evolution while delivering near-term business impact.

  • Lead the design and operation of highly scalable, reliable, and resilient distributed systems within the Global Catalog ecosystem.

  • Build and develop a world-class engineering organisation by attracting, mentoring, and growing senior engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and engineering excellence.

  • Drive continuous improvement across catalog quality, platform capabilities, operational excellence, and engineering productivity through data, automation, and AI-driven solutions.

  • Serve as a key technology leader helping shape the future of Walmart's commerce and AI strategy through the evolution of Global Catalog capabilities.

  • This role requires a leader who can balance deep technical expertise with strategic business thinking and is passionate about advancing the capabilities that power Walmart's global commerce ecosystem.

What You'll Bring

  • 20+ years of technology leadership experience, including leading large engineering organisations (200+ engineers) and developing senior engineering leaders and architects. Deep expertise in building and scaling large-scale distributed systems, with a strong focus on reliability, availability, performance, security, and operational excellence.

  • Proven experience leading platform, commerce, marketplace, or enterprise product organisations, driving both business growth and technology transformation at scale.

  • Strong technology and architectural leadership, with expertise across modern software platforms, cloud-native technologies, data platforms, AI/ML-powered systems, and platform engineering practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute long-term technology and platform strategies while balancing strategic investments with near-term business objectives and customer outcomes.

  • Strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of influencing senior leaders, driving alignment across complex organisations, and leading through collaboration and influence.

  • Proven success building high-performing teams and cultures, including attracting, mentoring, and developing top engineering talent while fostering engineering excellence.

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, with prior experience in high-growth technology, eCommerce, marketplace, or platform organisations strongly preferred.

  • This is a unique opportunity to help shape one of Walmart's most strategic capabilities and lead a significant engineering portfolio that powers product experiences across one of the world's largest retail ecosystems.
