Cardiovascular Perfusion Program Director

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is committed to attracting diverse world-class faculty to advance the School's mission to educate visionary nurse leaders and scholars, generate and apply knowledge, and transform nursing, health, and systems of health care within the local and global community. We are seeking applications for a Program Director to lead our Cardiovascular Perfusion Program. We invite applications from individuals with expertise in perfusion science, higher education teaching experience, and a strong record of program administration and leadership.

As an integral part of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center of Emory University, the School of Nursing is a nationally ranked leader in nursing and health sciences education and practice. The School offers educational programs across the spectrum of nursing and health professions, including its Cardiovascular Perfusion Program. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Director is responsible for academic program development and oversight of all aspects of the Cardiovascular Perfusion Program. The Program Director must be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and general effectiveness of the program. This individual must demonstrate proficiency in the use of instructional strategies and techniques and expertise in perfusion science based on best practices and evidence and support the mission and values of the School of Nursing and Emory University. Because of the program director’s key oversight of the Cardiovascular Perfusion Program, the position is based in Atlanta, Georgia and the candidate must reside in the Atlanta, Georgia vicinity before their start date.

Required Qualifications

Education:

• Master's degree from an accredited university/college
• Graduation from an accredited perfusion program

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years higher education teaching experience required in an accredited educational perfusion program
• Certified by the American Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP) with 5 years of clinical experience
• Licensed perfusionist in the State of Georgia or eligible for licensure such that it can be obtained within 3 months of employment
• Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, program planning and development

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD, EdD, or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university/college

Specific Program Director Responsibilities include:

Program Administration

Ensure the program is compliant with the AC-PE Standards for Perfusion Education

• Ensure the AC-PE Consensus Curriculum is incorporated into the Emory perfusion curriculum
• Monitor and retain data required for annual accreditation reports
• Provide leadership in management of the program through curriculum development, expert teaching and implementation of learning innovations that utilize technology, systematic evaluation and program planning
• Recruit the highest quality faculty and students, along with assisting in identifying and developing the financial resources needed to support these efforts
• Meet with advisory committee semi-annually or more frequently as required
• Serve on relevant School of Nursing, EHC and University committees as requested
• Collaborate with Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Program Directors, Specialty Coordinators, and faculty in: coordinating evaluation plan implementation and achieving outcomes; developing schema for course offerings and schedules each semester; recommending faculty assignments related to the program by presenting program teaching needs and draft faculty assignments; and identifying programmatic needs for faculty recruitment
• Collaborate with faculty to create objectives/teaching strategies in all areas (e.g. classroom, simulation and clinical) to ensure high-priority topics and SDOH framework are explicitly in the curriculum
• Oversee didactic, simulation and clinical curriculum to ensure learner competency, quality and safety
• Develop and maintain program policies and update the program student handbook
• Review and approve the faculty's recommendations for course, curricula and program changes before submission to the Curriculum committee. Monitor policies and procedures and ensure uniform implementation by faculty
• Complete annual faculty evaluations
• Collaborate with Admissions regarding recruitment of and interviewing of students, and monitor applications, admission, matriculation, progression, and graduation patterns of students
• Collaborate with the Office of Clinical Placement to oversee development of clinical sites and preceptors, evaluation of sites and preceptors, and liaisons with clinical partners
• Collaborate with other program directors across the School of Nursing and Emory University
• Oversee student experience outcomes; ensuring students are treated with respect and dignity, engaging when necessary to positively influence relationships between faculty and students
• Provide ongoing regular communication to the student body
• Monitor and report performance of students on certification examinations
• Prepare and present reports on program outcomes to SON and EHC executive leadership
• Complete proof of program completion, including specifics of courses and clinical case counts
• Serve as resource for course faculty and students and assist in resolving student and faculty issues and concerns
• Attend Emory functions as requested, e.g. Open House, Admitted Students Day, Orientation activities, etc.
• Attend graduation ceremonies.
• Maintain certification and continuing education in accordance with the requirements of the Cardiovascular Perfusionist accrediting body (ABCP) and the Georgia Medical Composite Board, including minimum clinical cases
• Oversee student research and/or scholarly projects to facilitate journal submissions and maintain the visibility of the program on a national level
• Present at national and local perfusion conferences to enhance the visibility of the Emory program
