With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

Pratt & Whitney Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) HPC Design group seeks a highly proficient, detail‑focused Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to serve as Senior Design Integrator across the F135 ECU and Base HPC programs. The selected candidate will lead design integration strategy for the Engine Core Upgrade (ECU) test‑validation phases and beyond to ensure critical lessons learned from the F135 HPC Base program are successfully captured, transferred, and embedded into ECU.

This senior‑level role requires recognized technical expertise, cross‑discipline leadership, strong communication skills, ability to mentor/coach others, and the ability to influence strategic design direction across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and CIPTs.

What You Will Do

As the Sr Design Integrator, you will:

  • Develop integrated design strategies for ECU module and engine‑level test‑validation phases, ensuring efficient configuration planning, technical readiness, and execution of pre‑test and post‑test activities.
  • Drive Base‑to‑ECU lessons‑learned transfer, maintaining cross‑module and cross‑discipline alignment so historical knowledge, ESW improvements, and best practices are applied consistently and early.
  • Serve as a technical design leader and “go‑to” integration expert, providing guidance and cross‑discipline problem solving for complex issues involving structures, aero, HT&SF, manufacturing, quality, and other modules.
  • Oversee design‑validation workstreams, coordinating manufacturing readiness, EFPRs, engine builds and module‑integration activities—including HPC gapping—and leading technical risk‑mitigation strategies.
  • Lead or support design‑strategy and discipline‑development initiatives, shaping toolsets, methods, improve EKS content, and data systems used across the design organization.
  • Mentor and coach engineering talent by providing training, technical reviews, approval authority, and support for early‑career engineers.
  • Drive engineering‑efficiency improvements through automated tool development, advanced data‑management techniques, and the use of AI‑enabled workflows.
  • Domestic travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 10+ years of prior relevant experience, or
  • Advanced degree in a related engineering field with 7+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • Experience working across complex IPT and CIPT structures, including design integration roles
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum project management tools
  • Broad understanding of engine hardware, engineering 2D drawings, Model‑Based Definition (MBD), and manufacturing methods
  • Advanced data‑management and processing capability; experience developing smart tools or automation
  • Ability to leverage AI to accelerate engineering workflows
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced environments with strong attention to detail and deadlines
  • Proficiency with Unigraphics NX, Teamcenter, engineering standard work, SAP, Class I and II EC processes
  • ANSYS experience desired
  • Certificates or advanced training in mechanical design are highly recommended
