Project Description
Seeking a Mainframe Senior Architect specializing in IBM mainframe performance and capacity management (~80% performance / 20% capacity planning) for a large IBM zEnterprise environment, covering z/OS performance, WLM, SMF/RMF analysis, Parallel Sysplex, and capacity forecasting/cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, tune, and troubleshoot z/OS performance (CPU, memory, storage, workload)
- Tune WLM policies; analyze SMF/RMF data for trends and bottlenecks
- Evaluate Db2, CICS, IMS, and MQ workload impact across multi-LPAR/Parallel Sysplex environments
- Forecast MIPS/MSU capacity; perform SCRT processing
- Build dashboards/reports via SAS/MXG, Excel, OMEGAMON, IntelliMagic, REXX, JCL
- Partner cross-functionally on findings; advise on cost optimization
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring
Mandatory Skills
- Extensive z/OS, WLM, SMF/RMF, Parallel Sysplex experience
- Strong REXX/JCL and SAS/MXG or OMEGAMON skills
- Db2/CICS/IMS/MQ performance knowledge
- MIPS/MSU forecasting and IBM software cost optimization understanding
- Advanced Excel and executive communication skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Grafana (highly desirable), ZPCR, Macro4 Freezeframe, BMC Thruput Manager, TADz, IntelliMagic
- SAS programming; executive dashboard experience
- Large-scale, highly transactional enterprise background
Education
Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or related field preferred, not required with strong relevant experience (note on profile if applicable).
