Seasonal Ice Rink Attendant

Do you love the outdoors?  Come work for a great team at the City of Shorewood as a seasonal ice rink attendant!  This seasonal position begins in December and typically runs through the end of February or longer, weather permitting.  The ice rink attendant is responsible for attending the warming house and rinks at one of two Shorewood skating rinks.It is a great position to work around your school and sports!  The responsibilities include opening and closing the warming house, supervising the warming house and skating rinks, and helping with general maintenance at Cathcart and Manor parks in the winter months.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE 

To provide maintenance and supervision duties at the warming house and skating rink, as directed by the Park/Recreation Director.  Rink locations are at Cathcart and Manor Parks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

• Responsible for effective communication and positive customer service with patrons and staff.
• Responsible for opening, closing, and locking up the warming house if working an opening or closing shift.
• Responsible for turning on/off lighting at the rinks.   
• Responsible for supervising and monitoring the skating rink and warming house.    
• Responsible for placing the hockey nets in place on the rink.   
• Responsible for maintaining and picking up trash/debris in the warming house.
• Responsible for assisting park patrons as requested and reasonable.  
• Responsible for reporting incidents or accidents immediately to supervisor and/or authorities as appropriate.  
• Responsible for maintaining clean restroom facilities during shift.  
• Responsible for vacuuming flooring in warming house.   

Attendants are required to follow all City Ordinances, rules and policies relating to parks, and must be at the rink during the entire shift, except in the case of an emergency.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with people.  You must successfully pass employment background screening and be available on evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work independently.  Skating ability is helpful.  Must be comfortable working with children and adults of all ages.  Ability to handle emergency situations.   Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation including a National Child Protection Act (NCPA) background.  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience or training in handling emergency situations.  

In compliance with the American with Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical and Environmental Demands: The position requires an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, and sitting.   Lifting, pushing/pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to thirty (30) pounds is required.  Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and bending are sometimes required.  Repetitive movements of the hands are required. Must adhere to safety policies and actively promote safe practices in the workplace based on annual safety training.
