Description
General Description
The purpose of this position is to ensure the health and safety of animals and residents by enforcing animal-related ordinances, rules, and regulations. This role operates under close supervision and follows established procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following functions represent the majority of time spent in this role. Management may assign additional related duties as necessary.
- Responds to animal complaints via phone or radio.
- Investigates reports of animal abuse; conducts interviews and gathers evidence for potential prosecution.
- Prepares reports, warrants, and summons; represents the City in court.
- Picks up and transports animals to the shelter or veterinary facilities.
- Enforces City ordinances, including but not limited to:
- Cruelty to animals
- Dangerous/vicious animals
- Animal bites
- Appears and testifies in court for individuals contesting citations.
- Prepares detailed incident and investigative reports.
- Supports the department's mission by striving to meet expectations, goals, and objectives.
- Maintains efficiency and effectiveness in balancing and meeting the reasonable expectations of the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- No prior experience required.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must possess a valid West Virginia Driver's License.
