Job Title: Shift Mechanical Craft Technician
Location: Trostre, South Wales
Salary: £43,841 (including 30% shift allowance)
Permanent | Full time | Shift Pattern: 2 Days | 2 Nights | 4 Days Off
Sector: Heavy industrial, manufacturing, process, steel, packaging, or similar production environment.
Technical Partners Recruitment is currently supporting a leading heavy manufacturing organisation in the search for an experienced Shift Mechanical Craft Technician to join their engineering team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical maintenance professional to work within a complex industrial environment, providing critical support to manufacturing operations through planned maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response, and continuous improvement activities.
The Role
As a Shift Mechanical Craft Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining plant equipment to the highest safety, performance, and reliability standards. Working as part of a shift engineering team, you will diagnose and rectify mechanical faults, carry out preventative maintenance activities, and support ongoing operational improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance activities.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex equipment faults to minimise downtime.
- Ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and in accordance with company and legislative requirements.
- Supporting manufacturing performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conducting equipment inspections and recommending improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
- Producing detailed maintenance reports and updating engineering records within SAP.
- Supporting training and development of colleagues where required.
- Supervising contractors and engineering personnel during maintenance activities.
- Contributing to Management of Change processes and ensuring risks are appropriately assessed.
About You
We're keen to speak with mechanically biased engineers who have experience working within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, process, steel, packaging, or similar production environment.
You'll ideally have:
- HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Completion of a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or Modern Apprenticeship.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on mechanical plant equipment.
- Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance within an industrial environment.
- Ability to supervise maintenance work safely and effectively.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
