Start date: ASAP
Duration: Approx. 6 months with potential to extend
Pay rate: $48.60 per hour plus 12% superannuation
Security requirements: Australian Citizenship is required at time of application
Overview
An Australian Government department is seeking an APS3 Record Service Officer to join a busy Information and Records Management team in Brisbane.
This is a practical, hands-on records role involving the preparation, retrieval, sorting and processing of physical records. You will assist with preparing records for transfer to the National Archives of Australia (NAA), accurately capture records information and support the day-to-day operations of the records repository.
This is a fully on-site position and involves regular manual handling, including moving and lifting archive boxes. The opportunity would suit someone who is organised, reliable and comfortable undertaking repetitive, process-driven work while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare paper records in accordance with established procedures and work instructions.
- Retrieve records from on-site holdings and sort and shelve files in the correct alpha-numerical order.
- Accurately capture record details and metadata using Excel spreadsheets and other approved systems.
- Prepare records for transfer to the National Archives of Australia (NAA).
- Complete assigned records processing activities within agreed timeframes.
- Maintain basic statistics and records of work completed.
- Undertake manual handling activities, including moving archive boxes and packing pallets, in accordance with WHS requirements.
- Manage individual workloads and priorities within established guidelines.
- Support records projects and other operational activities as required.
- Work cooperatively with team members and follow direction from team leaders and management.
Experience/requirements:
- Previous records management, archives, document processing or similar experience would be strongly desired.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete repetitive tasks accurately.
- Ability to follow documented procedures, work instructions and established processes.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Basic computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to accurately capture and maintain records and information.
- Ability to work independently within established guidelines while contributing effectively to a team.
- Reliable and comfortable working in a practical, operational records environment.
- Ability to undertake manual handling duties, including lifting boxes weighing up to 10 kg.
- Must be able to work fully on-site at the Brisbane records repository.
- Previous records management, archives, warehousing, document processing or similar experience would be advantageous.
