The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking an insightful UX Researcher to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG). This role offers a unique opportunity to ground an enterprise artificial intelligence and data analytics program in evidence about how federal oversight professionals actually work, so that what gets built is what the mission needs.

As a UX Researcher, you will study how investigators, auditors, inspectors, analysts, and counsel do their work, and turn what you learn into decisions the program can act on. You will plan and run usability testing on OIGChat, data platform interfaces, and pilot AI applications; build the adoption measurement framework that tells leadership whether the investment is landing; and map the workflows, personas, and pain points that guide design and training priorities. You will also study the particular challenges of AI-assisted work, including how users calibrate trust in model output and where verification breaks down. Working alongside designers, developers, and the Community of Practice, you will make sure the user voice carries real weight in what gets prioritized. Responsibilities:

- Plan and conduct user research with investigators, auditors, inspectors, analysts, and counsel using interviews, contextual inquiry, task analysis, diary studies, and surveys to understand real oversight workflows

- Design and run usability testing for OIGChat, data platform interfaces, dashboards, and pilot AI applications, documenting findings with severity ratings and specific, actionable recommendations

- Conduct user readiness assessments and adoption surveys across program offices to identify barriers, measure progress, and inform targeted engagement plans

- Build and maintain adoption measurement frameworks, including metrics definitions, usage analysis, and adoption dashboards that distinguish genuine use from surface activity

- Develop personas, journey maps, workflow models, and service blueprints covering audit, investigation, inspection, counsel, data analysis, and executive reporting workflows

- Synthesize Community of Practice feedback, ambassador input, support themes, and feature requests into prioritized, evidence-backed findings for the product backlog

- Conduct human factors analysis of AI-assisted tasks, examining cognitive load, error-prone steps, verification behavior, and how users calibrate trust in model output

- Partner with training and adoption teams to distinguish where user difficulty reflects a design problem from where it reflects a training or communication gap

- Conduct accessibility research with assistive technology users to validate that Section 508 conformance holds up in real use, not only in automated testing

- Document research plans, protocols, consent practices, findings, and recommendations, and maintain a research repository that makes prior insights discoverable to the whole team


Qualifications:

Required: 

- Bachelor's degree + 7 years of experience in user experience research, human factors, behavioral science, business analysis, or related field; equivalencies considered (Master's + 4 years; 13 years with no degree; AA + 9 years)

- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust (Tier 4 / High Risk) fitness determination

- Demonstrated experience planning and executing both qualitative and quantitative research for enterprise software, analytics platforms, or data-intensive applications

- Proficiency in usability testing methods, research synthesis, and translating findings into prioritized recommendations that development teams can act on

- Experience developing adoption metrics, measurement frameworks, and data-driven assessments of whether technology is delivering intended value

- Strong facilitation, interviewing, and communication skills, with the ability to present findings credibly to both technical teams and executive stakeholders


Desired:

- Experience researching AI or large language model tools, including studies of trust calibration, over-reliance, verification behavior, and prompt literacy

- Hands-on experience with accessibility research, assistive technology testing, and inclusive research recruitment

- Background in federal government, law enforcement, investigative, audit, or inspector general environments with understanding of mission-driven cultures and sensitive data constraints

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$75,200-$158,100
