Description
About Shepherd Electric Supply
Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved, and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time, so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we will come through.
Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way — safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place.
Why This Role Matters
DTS is where Shepherd holds and stages material for projects that are not ready to receive it yet — and where a single dropped detail becomes a missing shipment, a billing gap, or a job that stalls waiting on parts. When shipment requests are reviewed and approved cleanly, when inbound and outbound material is tracked to the piece, and when storage agreements and bailment paperwork are handled right, the project stays on schedule, and Shepherd keeps its promise to the customer.
The DTS Floor Coordinator keeps that system honest. You are the person who logs what comes in and what goes out, keeps the department calendar current so nothing gets missed, and builds the storage packets that let the DTS and Project Management teams move fast without guessing. When your records are accurate, the whole operation can be trusted. When they are not, the error shows up later — in a lost item, a disputed charge, or a shipment that goes to the wrong place at the wrong time.
This role is for someone who keeps careful notes when the pace picks up, who checks the detail before it becomes a problem, and who understands that in a storage-and-staging operation, accurate documentation is the product.
Work Shift and Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm
Compensation Details:
The expected pay rate for this position is starting between $21.00 - $24.00 per hour depending on experience.
How This Role Connects to Our Compass
- We Keep Our Promises: When you approve a shipment request or log a piece of material, people plan around it. You track inbound and outbound accurately, keep the calendar current, and make sure the paperwork matches what actually happened — so nothing gets lost and no promise gets broken.
- We Stay Hungry: You notice the request that could move faster, the recurring paperwork gap, the storage packet that keeps getting kicked back. You look for the cleaner way to run it — not just the way it has always been done.
- We Grow Together: DTS does not work alone. You coordinate with the DTS and Project Management teams to receive, review, and approve requests — and when your handoffs are clean and your notes are clear, the whole team moves without friction.
- We Own It: You own the record. If a shipment does not match the request, a form is missing, or the calendar is out of date, you catch it and fix it before it goes downstream — you do not pass a gap along and hope. The accuracy is yours.
- We Go Above & Beyond: You keep detailed notes before anyone has to ask for them, build the storage packet before it is needed, and flag the discrepancy before it becomes a dispute. You give the DTS and Project Management teams what they need to keep every project on track.
Key Outcomes - Organized by what matters, not just what you do.
Shipment Coordination & Approval
- Work closely with the DTS and Project Management teams to receive, review, approve, and coordinate DTS shipment requests
- Confirm each request against what is actually staged so approvals match reality — catch the mismatch here, not at the job site
- Keep the department calendar current with all relevant events so nothing is missed or double-booked
Material Tracking & Documentation
- Keep detailed, accurate notes on all inbound and outbound material
- Facilitate requirements gathered from storage agreements, bailment forms, and related documentation
- Create DTS Storage packets accurately and on request so the team can pick up without chasing details
Accuracy & Handoffs
- Maintain organized records so material, paperwork, and billing all line up
- Keep documentation aligned with actual transactions so discrepancies surface early, not at audit
- Communicate clearly with the DTS team, Project Management, and leadership when something does not add up
Growth & Improvement
- Participate in trainings to build and maintain working knowledge of electrical products
- Surface workflow friction, recurring documentation gaps, or process inefficiencies to leadership
- Take ownership of other associated tasks assigned by the leadership team
What Success Looks Like - After 90 days, you and your supervisor should both be able to point to these markers:
- Inbound and outbound material is tracked accurately — nothing goes unrecorded and nothing gets lost
- Shipment requests are reviewed, approved, and coordinated without rework or missed details
- The department calendar is current and trusted, and storage packets go out complete and on time
- Storage agreements, bailment forms, and related paperwork are organized and audit-ready
- Leadership trusts that your assigned tasks run without close supervision
- You proactively identify improvements instead of waiting for direction
Who Thrives Here - This role is a strong fit if:
- You pay attention to details others overlook, and you would rather prevent a problem than fix one later
- You are organized, steady, and reliable when requests pile up and priorities shift
- You are comfortable working with numbers, records, and documentation, and you care about getting them right
- You communicate clearly and directly — with the DTS team, Project Management, and leadership
- You want to build real product knowledge in the electrical industry over time
- You take ownership of your work without needing constant oversight
- You want to be part of a team that notices when you do the job well
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1–3 years of experience in the electrical industry preferred; attitude and reliability matter more than years
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office — Excel, Word, and Office 365; familiarity with Eclipse is a plus
- Basic understanding of accounting and math
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a professional, pleasant phone demeanor
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet deadlines accurately
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated and results-focused, with a professional attitude, conduct, and appearance
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements
