Job Title: High School Track Jumper’s Assistant Coach

Job Classification: Athletics

Reports to: Athletic Director & High School Head Track Coach

Work Schedule: Seasonal/Part-Time (includes evenings & weekends)

General Description:


This part time position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques for long jump, high jump, and potentially pole vault. The coach should prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport, improve their academics, stimulate personal growth, and learn the skills required for track.


Qualifications:

  • Experience as a long jump and/or high jump coach at the high school or college level is preferred.
  • Individuals with long jump and/or high jump experience should also apply if interested in the position.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Must be able to complete a criminal background check as well as an Indiana Department of Children's Services check


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses player’s skills and abilities.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on athletes capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Organizes and attends the fundraising dates that are available for the athletics program.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
  • Attends any required coaches’ meetings, HPC all conference voting, and IHSAA meetings necessary to fulfill their responsibilities.

Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.


Duties are normally performed in a school environment or outdoors. Duties may be performed away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
