The VP, Investment/Fund Operations will join BMO Global Asset Management U.S. (GAM) as part of the build-out of its U.S. ETF business, with a particular focus on derivatives-based and outcome-oriented ETF strategies. The U.S. ETF business is a start-up growth initiative that will build on GAM’s established Canadian ETF business. This includes its product suite, investment capabilities, operating model, and market expertise. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the GAM Canada team, maintaining regular communication to leverage existing capabilities and adapt them effectively for the U.S. ETF market.
The role will report directly to the U.S. Chief Operating Officer. The VP is responsible for overseeing the operational infrastructure that supports investment activities, portfolio management, fund administration, and client servicing. This role ensures accurate, timely, controlled, and scalable execution across the full investment lifecycle
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily reconciliation of portfolio positions, cash balances, and trading activity across multiple portfolios.
- Investigate and resolve trade discrepancies while coordinating with brokers, custodians, and external service providers to ensure accurate settlement.
- Support the investment team by processing daily transactions and responding to operational inquiries.
- Manage corporate actions, dividend activity, proxy events, and other lifecycle events affecting portfolio holdings.
- Assist with regulatory filings and recurring compliance reporting requirements.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including account reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting schedules.
- Partner with third-party service providers to oversee NAV production, investor reporting, and financial statement preparation.
- Review accounting records and financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting standards.
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors and other professional service providers.
- Assist with management company accounting, expense allocations, accruals, budgeting, and other finance initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in operational due diligence meetings and support investor requests related to fund operations and infrastructure.
- Assist with onboarding new counterparties, custodians, and service providers.
- Contribute to internal operational controls, policies, and process documentation.
- Help manage relationships with administrators, auditors, legal counsel, brokers, and other external partners.
- Participate in valuation and governance processes supporting the firm's investment platform.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through automation, technology, and continuous process improvement.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in fund operations, fund accounting, middle office, investment operations.
- Experience supporting mutual funds and exchange traded funds with over the counter (OTC) and exchange traded (ETD) derivatives
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- MBA, CPA, CFA, or similar professional designation is a plus.
- Strong understanding of investment operations, fund accounting, NAV reporting, and financial statements.
- Experience working with third-party administrators, auditors, and financial service providers.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with investment management platforms, portfolio management systems, and Bloomberg is advantageous.
- Experience leveraging automation tools or AI technologies to improve operational efficiency is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and interact with senior stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

$74,000.00 - $138,000.00Pay Type:

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
