BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The provision of comprehensive approach to pediatric healthcare with complimentary acutherapy treatment for acute and/or chronic pain and symptom management and prevention complimenting the medical treatment to enhance healing and improve overall wellness. Conditions and symptoms may include but are not limited to the following:
- Symptoms: pain (head, abdomen, musculoskeletal, postoperative), neuropathy, contractures, fatigue, cramping, nausea/vomiting, constipation, insomnia, tension, stress, anxiety
- Conditions: Cancer, Sickle Cell Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Inflammatory Bowel Disorders, Fibromyalgia, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mitochondrial Disease, Post Surgical Pain.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Supervisory Responsibilities: NO
Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Degree: Master’s Required
License/Certification Required: Licensed Acupuncturist with Tennessee Board of Acupuncture and accredited with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)
Minimum Work Experience: One year of experience in pediatric acupuncture or Three years of professional practice in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Formal training in pediatric acupuncture and non-needle pediatric acupuncture therapies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS)certification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates knowledge of pediatric acupuncture
- Knowledge of applicable DPCH policies and external regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members
- Ability to educate patients, families and staff
- Basic computer skills
- Maintains and increases knowledge of pediatric acupuncture and adjunctive therapy
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verifies integrative therapy order for acutherapy
- Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the healthcare needs of patients including medical history, diagnosis, medications and current treatment plan
- Confirms with care team and family appropriate timing for acupuncturist visit
- Works with each patient and family to develop plans for acupuncture and adjunctive therapies consistent with organizational polices, professional regulations and state regulations.
- Educate patients and family on acupuncture therapy including risks and benefits.
- Provides acupuncture therapies specific to patient’s diagnosis and distressing symptoms considering developmental stage, sensory needs, patient tolerance
- Monitors patient response to therapy and modifies therapy as needed
- Elicit patient and family feedback on provided therapy and respond accordingly
- Provides education to patients and family specific to therapy provided
- Documents treatment and response following HIPAA compliance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to optimize acupuncture therapy experience
- Maintain clean environment and acupuncture equipment and supplies in compliance with DPCH infection control policies
- Present professional appearance in compliance with DPCH dress code
- Approximately 6-10 hours as week depending on patient census and needs
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
