Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, skilled, and safety-minded Roof Repair Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting residential and/or commercial roofing systems, identifying the source of leaks or damage, and completing high-quality repairs that protect our customers’ homes and businesses.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working at heights, enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and understands that a successful repair is about more than replacing a few shingles. Our technicians are expected to diagnose the actual cause of a roofing problem, clearly communicate what they find, complete repairs correctly, and leave the property clean and secure.

Key Responsibilities

Roof Inspection & Diagnosis

  • Inspect residential and commercial roofing systems for leaks, damage, deterioration, and potential problem areas.
  • Identify the source and cause of roof leaks, including issues that may not be immediately visible.
  • Inspect shingles, flashing, vents, pipe collars, penetrations, valleys, roof decking, gutters, and other roofing components.
  • Identify structural or decking damage that may require additional repair.
  • Determine the appropriate repair method based on roof condition, roofing materials, and the extent of damage.
  • Communicate findings to supervisors, project managers, estimators, and customers as required.

Roof Repairs

  • Repair active and potential roof leaks.
  • Remove and replace broken, damaged, loose, or missing shingles.
  • Repair or replace damaged flashing around chimneys, walls, valleys, vents, skylights, and other roof penetrations.
  • Seal and repair roof vents, pipe boots, penetrations, and other vulnerable areas.
  • Repair damaged roof decking or structural components when within the scope of the technician's training and assigned work.
  • Perform temporary emergency repairs when permanent repairs cannot immediately be completed.
  • Complete repairs according to company standards, manufacturer recommendations, applicable building codes, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure completed repairs are watertight, secure, and visually professional.

Insurance Actions

  • To support completing customer claims, perform shingle and/or siding sample pulls to send to insurance adjustors
  • Perform repair tests with appropriate documentation to send to insurance adjustors to support customer claims

Documentation & Customer Service

  • Take clear before, during, and after photographs of roof damage and completed repairs.
  • Accurately document inspection findings, recommended repairs, materials used, and work completed.
  • Provide information needed for customer reports, estimates, invoices, warranty documentation, or insurance-related records.
  • Explain repair findings and completed work to customers in a professional and easy-to-understand manner when requested.
  • Treat every customer's home, business, and property with care and respect.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing the company.

Safety & Job Site Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Properly use ladders, fall-protection equipment, harnesses, ropes, anchors, and other required safety equipment.
  • Inspect tools and safety equipment before use.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Protect landscaping, siding, windows, driveways, and other areas of the customer's property while completing repairs.
  • Remove roofing debris, nails, packaging, and unused materials from the job site.
  • Properly load, unload, transport, and secure roofing materials, ladders, tools, and equipment.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, property damage, or unexpected structural concerns to management.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous roofing, construction, exterior repair, or related trade experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of common roofing systems, materials, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot roof leaks and water-intrusion problems.
  • Ability to safely use roofing tools, ladders, and related equipment.
  • Comfortable working on roofs and at elevated heights.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record if operating a company vehicle is required.

Physical Requirements

The Roof Repair Technician must be able to:

  • Climb and work safely from ladders and on roofing surfaces.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, and maintain balance for extended periods.
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull roofing materials, tools, ladders, and equipment.
  • Work at various heights and roof pitches.
  • Safely navigate uneven, sloped, or potentially slippery surfaces.
  • Perform physically demanding work outdoors.
  • Work in hot, cold, humid, windy, and other changing weather conditions, subject to company safety policies.

Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals in accordance with applicable law.

Knowledge & Skills

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Roofing repair and troubleshooting skills
  • Leak detection and diagnosis

Work Environment

This is a field-based position requiring regular travel to residential and/or commercial properties. Work is primarily performed outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, sunlight, wind, dust, construction debris, and other normal roofing and construction-site conditions.

Work schedules may vary depending on weather, customer needs, emergency repairs, and seasonal workload.

Performance Expectations

A successful Roof Repair Technician will:

  • Arrive on time and prepared for assigned jobs.
  • Accurately identify roofing problems rather than simply treating visible symptoms.
  • Complete repairs correctly and efficiently.
  • Minimize callbacks and repeat leaks through thorough diagnosis and quality workmanship.
  • Follow safety procedures every time, even on smaller or seemingly simple repairs.
  • Maintain accurate job documentation and photographs.
  • Communicate promptly when additional damage or unexpected conditions are discovered.
  • Protect customer property and maintain clean job sites.
  • Treat customers, coworkers, vendors, and supervisors professionally and respectfully.
  • Take ownership of assigned work from initial inspection through completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four or more years of roofing or roof-repair experience.
  • Experience with asphalt shingles and common residential roofing systems.
  • Commercial roofing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with flashing, vents, pipe boots, skylights, chimneys, and roof penetrations.
  • OSHA or other construction-safety training.
  • Manufacturer-specific roofing training or certifications.
  • Experience documenting damage using photographs, mobile applications, or field-service software.
