Description

This position serves as faculty for the Dental Hygiene Program to include instruction, clinical supervision, student advising, and other program responsibilities associated with both the daytime and evening curriculum.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. * Teaches assigned courses and provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction during scheduled daytime and/or evening/night hours as required.

* Provides clear, effective instruction and guidance to students in a structured and engaging learning environment.

* Utilizes current teaching strategies, technologies, and best practices to enhance student learning.

* Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, performance, and grades

* Prepare thoroughly for each class session, student meeting, etc. to ensure high-quality instruction.

* Promotes a safe, respectful, and organized classroom, lab, clinic, and department environment.

* Evaluates and returns student work promptly, providing timely and constructive feedback

* Advises and counsels students regarding academic performance and progress.

* Develops course materials, including syllabi, instructional plans, assessments, and improvement plans that align with program goals and CODA standards.

* Designs curriculum and schedules that support student learning outcomes and meet accreditation requirementsMaintainsregularo?cehours for student support and academic advising

Engages in professional development activities to stay current with course content, educational methods, clinical techniques, and industry standards.

Participates in program meetings, student advising, professional development, and other departmental activities, including occasional daytime activities as required by the needs of the program.

Collaborates with colleagues and actively participates in department meetings, decision-making processes, and program initiatives.

Supports the growth and continuous improvement of the dental hygiene program through planning, evaluation, and implementation.

Ensure program operations align with the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards, as well as the mission and objectives of the institution

Assists in establishing course goals, selecting textbooks, and developing course materials in coordination with program objectives.

Participates in faculty calibration and standardization activities to promote consistency and reliability in student assessment, clinical instruction, and evaluation

Participates in institutional events such as graduation ceremoniesKnowledge,Skills& Abilities:
 
Knowledge of American Dental Association accreditation process

Knowledge of the current blood borne pathogen standard requirements regarding infection control and HazCom standards

Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning Be innovative, creative, motivated

Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others

Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently

Good organizational skills

Demonstrated proficiency with computers, learning management systems, electronic health records, student assessment systems, and other technology used to support instruction, clinical education, communication, and student assessment

Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision 

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential


Requirements: 

Bachelor's degree

Graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA), Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Dental Hygiene Program

Currently licensed as a Dental Hygienist in NC

Current CPR Certcation

Current local anesthesia certification


Preferences: 

Masters' degree in Dental Hygiene or related

Two years clinical and/or didactic teaching experience Two years' clinical practice experience

Background in educational methodology
