Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Vice President to join the General Ledger (GL) team within Group Financial Control & Operations (GFCO). In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining the integrity of the Bank's financial records, including bank reconciliation and strengthening the overall financial control environment.
As part of the GFCO GL team, you will be responsible for overseeing GL governance and monitoring activities, ensuring balance sheet integrity through effective bank reconciliation and balance sheet substantiation processes, and supporting the Bank's risk-based GL monitoring framework. You will work closely with key stakeholders across Finance, Operations, and Business units to ensure the timely resolution of accounting and control issues, while driving operational excellence through process enhancement and automation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Balance Sheet Substantiation submissions prepared by Account Owners (AOs), ensuring compliance with the Group Risk-Based GL Monitoring Framework and supporting the integrity of GL balances.
- Apply strong banking product knowledge and accounting expertise to perform independent reviews, investigate anomalies, assess financial impacts, and drive timely resolution of GL exceptions and control issues.
- Support daily Nostro operations, including journal entry processing, account reconciliations, transaction matching, and investigation of unidentified Nostro transactions, with a strong focus on financial controls and governance.
- Monitor material outstanding balances and aged items in the nostro accounts, ensuring timely follow-up, investigation, escalation, and resolution in accordance with established policies and control standards.
- Work with team members to ensure the timely and accurate execution of bank reconciliation activities and adherence to established operating procedures and control requirements.
- Perform monitoring and analytical reviews to identify emerging risks, control gaps, and unusual transactions, ensuring issues are appropriately escalated and remediated.
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and management requests by maintaining high-quality documentation, including SOPs, policies, process flows, and audit evidence.
- Support continuous process improvement and automation initiatives, leveraging tools such as RPA, data analytics, and digital solutions to enhance governance, control effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with regional subsidiaries, overseas branches, and key stakeholders to support the implementation and alignment of Group-wide finance and operational standards, policies, and best practices.
- Participate in strategic projects and regulatory initiatives affecting GL processes, ensuring appropriate controls, governance, and operational readiness are embedded.
Job Requirements
- Recognised degree in Accountancy, Banking, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in Financial Control, Finance Operations, General Ledger, Reconciliation, or related finance functions within a banking or financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of banking products, treasury operations, and financial accounting principles, with the ability to assess accounting treatments and financial impacts.
- Sound knowledge of financial controls, governance frameworks, risk management principles, and balance sheet substantiation practices.
- Experience operating in a highly regulated environment with exposure to audits, regulatory requirements, control reviews, and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with reconciliation platforms and financial systems would be advantageous.
Core Competencies
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with data analytics, automation, and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Python, SQL, Power Query, or RPA platforms is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform detailed reviews and make sound judgments in a control-focused environment.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining data integrity and financial control standards.
