The Lead Loan Ratings Manager is responsible for the annual review and rating of commercial mortgage loan investments.  This role involves conducting ongoing annual loan reviews, portfolio oversight, and collaboration with internal teams on loan administration, as well as supporting senior management with planning and reporting.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct annual loan reviews with financial, market and security analysis, to update the credit rating for each mortgage in our portfolio. 

  • Collaborate with the Credit, Production and legal teams on mortgage loans in the portfolio, including loan surveillance, rating, and other loan-related matters.

  • Support senior management by reporting on loan and portfolio performance.

  • Present on specific loan performance and rating movement to senior management at Quarterly Loan Review Meetings.

  • Provide new loan underwriting support and perform other miscellaneous tasks associated with new loan origination and portfolio management.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial mortgage loan experience with a background in portfolio or asset management. Previous experience with a life insurance company, bank or credit role is a plus. 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, finance, economics, commercial real estate, or related field preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of mortgage lending, including documentation, credit standards, and underwriting principles.

  • Ability to analyze cash flows and complete spreadsheet-based financial modeling, an understanding of commercial real estate market conditions, loan rating methodology, and appraisal techniques.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • General understanding of macroeconomic trends, capital markets, AI concepts and use cases, and financial analysis.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with evaluating credit risk using Expected Credit Loss (ECL) methodology and NAIC Commercial Mortgage Loan Designations (CM1-CM6) are a plus.

Salary range is expected to be between

$128,550.00 USD - $222,820.00 USD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
