Position Summary

The Architect IV exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, solves problems when encountered, and receives guidance on complex projects. The Architect IV works on a variety of projects from conceptual design through construction administration.

Essential Functions

• Perform work requiring independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Independently solve problems as encountered.
• Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex issues and supervisory approval on proposed projects plans.
• Work individually with project manager in developing, planning, and creative-design concepts of a project.
• Assist with budget management.
• Prepare design presentation materials.
• Work directly with client and/or user group to develop schematic design concepts and programming studies.
• Observe architectural features of structures in the field. 
• Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects.
• Independently make decisions on significant architectural design problems and methods.
• Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures for both projects and practice.
• Initiate and create conceptual designs and plans of projects with responsibility for preparation of schematic design drawings, design development, and construction documents.
• Review and coordinate conceptual designs from all disciplines.
• Write specifications as assigned.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to RFIs.
• Produce construction documents.
• Conduct code research and analysis and review with various agencies for approval.
• Collaborate with engineers, consultants, contractors, and/or clients.
• Perform construction administration to include revisions, addenda, facilitation of project communications, maintenance of project records, review and certification of amounts due to contractors, and preparation of change orders.

Additional Responsibilities

• Prepare project proposals, design team budget, schedule, and workforce projections.
• Prepare and review consultant proposals.
• Supervise design team members as necessary.
• Support business development activities as necessary.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Architecture or Bachelor of Arts or Science in Architecture
• Registered as a licensed architect 
• Six (6) years combined experience as an intern architect and/or architect 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite software
• Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
• Firm grasp of building technology fundamentals
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to effectively and confidently prioritize and execute tasks with many competing priorities
• Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Architecture
• Experience with Newforma Project Center and/or Newforma Project Analyzer 
• Experience with Microsoft Project 
• Experience with Bluebeam PDF Revu 
• Experience with Autodesk Revit software
• Additional relevant certifications indicating additional expertise such as for construction administration, interior design, LEED/Green Globes/sustainability, etc.
