Field mechanic

 

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking an experienced Field Diesel Mechanic to join our plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of heavy construction and earthmoving equipment operating across company projects.

 

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on construction and earthmoving equipment
• Perform breakdown repairs and return equipment to service safely and efficiently
• Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing in accordance with manufacturer and company requirements
• Inspect equipment and identify defects or potential failures before breakdowns occur
• Repair and replace engines, hydraulic components, drivetrain components, electrical systems and associated equipment where required
• Use OEM technical manuals, diagnostic information and schematics during fault finding
• Complete job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records accurately
• Identify required parts and communicate repair requirements to supervisors and relevant site personnel
• Plan repair and maintenance activities around site production requirements
• Comply with H&I safety procedures, risk assessments and applicable Occupational Health and Safety requirements
• Maintain tools and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition
• Provide practical guidance and on-the-job training to apprentices and junior personnel

 

Qualifications & experience:

• Red Seal Qualification (Diesel Mechanic)
• Minimum of 5 years’ post red seal experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction/earthmoving equipment
• Valid code B drivers’ licence
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English language)
• Experience working on a range of heavy earthmoving equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, graders, articulated dump trucks and other construction plants would be advantageous.
• Experience working on a range of surfacing plants such as pavers, milling machines, recyclers and chip spreaders
