MSG is growing, and we're looking for a motivated Civil Engineer IV with 6-10 years of experience — which, fair warning, has serious industrial character. It’s a big, open space where experienced engineers can collaborate, lead projects, mentor developing staff, and help shape the future of our civil practice.
In this role, you’ll lead the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure and private development projects throughout Southeast Michigan. You’ll apply your technical experience to complex civil/site design assignments, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, guide junior engineers and designers, and help ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of civil engineering plans and designs using Autodesk Civil 3D, including:
- Site layout and grading
- Roadway alignments and profiles
- Surfaces, corridors, and earthwork modeling
- Water main and utility layouts
- Storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems
- Stormwater management and detention facilities
- Soil erosion and sedimentation control
- Construction staging and site restoration
Prepare and oversee engineering deliverables such as:
- Construction drawings and technical specifications
- Engineering calculations and design reports
- Quantity takeoffs and opinions of probable construction cost
- Drainage and stormwater management calculations
- Permit applications and regulatory submittals
- Technical memoranda and feasibility evaluations
- Bid documents, addenda, and construction-phase documentation
Provide technical leadership and project support by:
- Leading multidisciplinary design assignments from concept through construction
- Coordinating project requirements with clients, municipalities, utility agencies, and regulatory authorities
- Establishing design approaches and resolving complex technical issues
- Managing assigned project tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Reviewing the work of engineers, designers, and technicians
- Performing and documenting quality control reviews
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting their technical development
- Assisting project managers with scope development, fee estimates, proposals, and client coordination
- Supporting bidding, construction administration, and construction engineering activities
- Conducting site assessments, field investigations, progress observations, and construction support
- Ensuring deliverables comply with municipal, county, state, and federal requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
- Approximately 8 or more years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience
- Michigan Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain Michigan licensure through reciprocity
- Demonstrated experience delivering municipal infrastructure, land development, or civil/site design projects
- Strong proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and an ability to direct and review Civil 3D design work
- Thorough understanding of grading, utilities, stormwater management, drainage, roadway design, and site development
- Experience preparing construction documents, calculations, cost estimates, and permit applications
- Ability to independently evaluate technical issues and develop practical engineering solutions
- Experience coordinating with clients, reviewing agencies, utility providers, and other project disciplines

The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. This range reflects the company’s good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
