Description

About Us

Engelhart was founded in 2013 by BTG Pactual Group as a commodities trading company. Our business model is “asset light” and highly diversified – giving us the ability to adapt effectively and nimbly to changing market conditions. We have assembled successful multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced fundamental analysis with deep quantitative and weather research capabilities.  Our activities are underpinned by strong risk management practices and by powerful technology and operational excellence. We have exceptional teams with diverse global backgrounds and decades of experience, and are driven by a highly collaborative culture, across products and competencies.

In 2024, Engelhart acquired Trailstone, a global energy trading and technology company. The acquisition provides us with new expertise, analytics and proprietary technology which is being used to provide risk management and optimisation services to help maximise the value of our clients’ renewable power. The acquisition also expanded Engelhart’s capabilities into physical natural gas across North America, a critical fuel to support the energy transition.

Our talented and experienced individuals work together according to its four company values: Performance, Agility, Collaboration, Entrepreneurship.

About the Role

As a member of the Data team, you will build the services, infrastructure, and data platforms that power our business. Our team is responsible for ingesting, processing, storing, and distributing large volumes of data reliably and efficiently, enabling teams across the business to make data-driven decisions and build innovative products.

This role sits at the intersection of backend software engineering and data engineering. You will develop scalable backend services, design and maintain data pipelines, and build the underlying data infrastructure that enables reliable, cost-effective, and high-performance data processing.

You'll work closely with other engineering teams, data consumers, and infrastructure specialists to build robust solutions that balance technical excellence with delivering business value. While the role involves technical collaboration across the organization, it is primarily focused on engineering rather than stakeholder management.

We are looking for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, takes ownership of their work, and can make pragmatic engineering decisions that maximize impact.

This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs in Python that support data ingestion, processing, and distribution.
  • Building and maintaining reliable data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data from a wide variety of internal and external sources.
  • Developing reusable frameworks and tooling that simplify onboarding new data sources and improve developer productivity.
  • Designing and optimizing scalable data platforms, including databases, data lakes, metadata catalogues, and storage solutions.
  • Continuously improving the reliability, scalability, observability, and cost-efficiency of our data infrastructure.
  • Integrating data across multiple systems while reducing duplication and ensuring high data quality.
  • Developing and maintaining orchestration workflows and automated data processing pipelines.
  • Building internal libraries and services that enable other engineering teams to access and consume data efficiently.
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing production systems and data pipelines.
  • Contributing to architecture discussions and technical decisions across the data platform.
  • Collaborating closely with software engineers, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, and data consumers to deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Continuously identifying opportunities to simplify systems, improve automation, and reduce operational overhead.

About You

This person will be an experienced and pragmatic full-stack engineer, who enjoys building scalable systems that solve real business problems. They will be comfortable operating in a commercial environment, collaborating with international teams, and have a proven track record of taking initiative and accountability.

As a result, the following background, experiences and skills are essential for application:

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with professional experience building production backend systems and services with Python.
  • Front-end development experience, including building maintainable, user-facing applications and interfaces using Node.js, React, and React-Redux.
  • Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, including infrastructure automation.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with both relational & analytical databases.
  • Experience working with AWS services such as ECS, SQS, RDS, Athena, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, or related technologies.
  • Experience working with containerized applications and modern software delivery practices.
  • Familiarity with messaging and asynchronous processing patterns.

In addition, the following is not required, but highly desirable for this role:

  • Full lifecycle, server-side and client-side, experience with Websocket.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and agentic AI solutions to accelerate software development and business workflows, including LLMs, MCPs, tools, skills, knowledge bases, vector databases, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
  • Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native architectures.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and high-throughput data processing.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and performance tuning.

What we offer

  • Competitive compensation and participation in Engelhart’s discretionary bonus plan.
  • 20 days of annual holiday entitlement, excluding US public holidays (NYSE).
  • Robust benefits package such as Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, 401(k) match, and supplemental benefits partially subsidized by the Company.
  • Eligibility to receive external and internal training in accordance with our Training & Development Policy.

We believe in inclusivity and are therefore dedicated to ensuring all employees – across gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, life experience, background and more – feel welcome and included in the company. We promote diversity because we believe it is essential to our ability to think holistically.
