Role Summary
Anthropologie is looking for a Sr. Director of Sourcing for Furniture. Reporting to the Executive Director of URBN Sourcing, the Director of Sourcing - Furniture, is responsible for defining, executing, and leading the long-term total sourcing strategy and developmental blueprint for Anthropologie Brand, while establishing a consultative leadership model for Urban Outfitters & Terrain Brands.
Role Responsibilities
Global Responsibilities:
- Facilitation and execution of Brand’s vision through development and management of pre-production time and action, and production work-in-process calendars for bought styles. ● Proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks across geopolitical scenarios, factory capacity, raw material, price, and delivery timelines to ensure continuity of supply. ● Supporting Merchant’s needs and business requirements specific to the brand. ● Supervising and promoting the development of In-Region support teams through coaching & training.
Internal Responsibilities:
- Cultivate a high-performing, future-ready team and establish operational structures that ensure both day-to-day efficiency and the accurate, timely availability of strategic business intelligence.
- Mentor and empower staff to generate creative solutions and embrace a culture of continuous improvement & innovation.
- Lead change and coach all cross functional teams to respond to rapidly changing business & competitive environments.
- Facilitate the corporate initiative of global work to support international expansion.
- Coordinate and facilitate the team to deliver aesthetically correct samples that meet Design’s vision and the Merchant’s requirements.
- Facilitate the team to maintain and manage pre-production, seasonal development, chase business development and current production thru delivery.
Sourcing Strategy
- Champion brand initiatives and align sourcing efforts with the organization's three-year strategic goals.
- Drive long-range planning by creating and managing monthly factory forecasts and an annual mill strategy aligned with long-term operational calendar deadlines (measured by monthly book to date reconciliation).
- Cultivate and lead strategic, collaborative relationships with a global vendor base to ensure resilient and successful long-term business partnerships.
- Conduct rigorous, continuous global market analysis to proactively identify supply base vulnerabilities, reduce total landed cost, minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and exploit emerging opportunities that provide a competitive advantage for the brand.
- Define and clearly articulate a compelling long-term brand and category strategy based on in-depth trend analysis and market vision.
Product Development Strategy
- Collaborate between stakeholders to create a calendar and meet deadlines (measured by seasonal calendar actualization report). Lead strategies and initiatives to reduce overall lead times.
- Lead & Influence cross functional teams to develop product that fits within URBN company sourcing goals and strategies.
- Set and lead development and engineering strategy to successfully deliver cost and lead-time targets.
- Apply data-driven analysis to the development pipeline to significantly improve adoption rates over a specific time period and consistently hit the approved line plan style count (measured by seasonal line plan actualization).
- Leverage sophisticated margin analysis to establish clear, strategic IMU targets and guide the team in final costing negotiations, ensuring margins are consistently met or exceeded.
- Lead the successful integration of vendor-initiated designs into the product development and production pipeline, ensuring strategic alignment with brand vision.
- Provide strategic oversight for the product development and production process of vendor-initiated designs, acting as the ultimate decision-maker for critical path timelines and quality standards.
- Ownership of the progressive and incremental product life cycle calendar, setting the pace and managing deliverables against seasonal and monthly business requirements.
Production Strategies
- Lead the proactive optimization of the supply chain, including freight modes and distribution center flow, to unlock significant margin opportunity and business growth.
- Manage product development and production process for vendor initiated design.
- Provide IMU targets and guidance to the team to negotiate final costing with vendors, ensuring margins are met or exceeded.
- Strategically manage the allocation of raw material inventory, overseeing delivery schedules and proactively mitigating financial liabilities.
- Utilize forward-looking inventory planning to initiate strategic early commitments, ensuring supply security and cost advantage.
Role Qualifications
- Expertise in furniture engineering, owning the global standard for cost value ration, testing protocols, vendor resource management, product componentry, and quality assurance.
- Proven ability to lead assessments and drive strategic improvements for in-country packaging, optimizing for cost and quality.
- Proven strategic leadership with a track record of successfully managing and scaling large, high-performing teams in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Experience directing strategic overseas travel to evaluate key vendors and mandate necessary operational and quality improvements.
- Direct and hold accountable subordinates for the timely accomplishment of all departmental goals and critical path deadlines.
- Champion the continuous professional development of subordinates through structured mentorship, training, and delegation of key responsibilities.
- Demonstrated business ownership for proactive, decisive problem-solving.
- A strategic mindset focused on driving and implementing high-impact operational efficiencies.
- Executive-level adaptability to lead teams and strategy through rapidly changing business environments.
- A results-driven leader with a high sense of urgency and unwavering commitment to hitting critical deadlines.
- 10+ plus years of experience managing and leading a production / product development / sourcing team.
- Philadelphia, PA, 4 Days weekly in-office, 1 day Remote.
- 2 –5 times a year travel: manufacturing, development, and trade show locations.
