King County District Court Profile 

KCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 300,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Thirteen cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.

Position Summary

King County District Court is seeking applicants for a current opening as a Court Coordinator at the Shoreline Courthouse. The Court Coordinator is responsible for supporting judges and court staff and ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of court services to the public. This position provides leadership, guidance, and support to court employees, helps coordinate staffing and workflow, and works collaboratively with judges, managers, employees, and other stakeholders to address operational needs. The ideal candidate will be organized, adaptable, and committed to public service, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced court environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service.

  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations and supervision of Court staff and delegates workload. Provides support and oversight for all clerical duties in and out of the courtroom.
  • Collaborates with Judges, managers, employees, and other KCDC stakeholders to resolve issues and support effective court operations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the Court processes and procedures.
  • Provides guidance and support to Court Clerks regarding court procedures, customer service, and workplace expectations.
  • Handles complex issues (including relationship issues between staff) and sensitive and confidential employment matters (FMLA, Labor Contracts or other HR-related issues) for assigned staff.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, coaching, and long-range goal setting for Court Clerks and providing feedback for staff development. Provides regular one-on-ones, yearly and probationary evaluations.
  • Audits daily financial oversight validating and authorizing financial reversals, process exception reports and distributing cash for daily tills. Includes end-of-day, end-of-month, and end-of-year Accounting.
  • Assists with the development of new projects and serves on committees as required. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels of the organization, union officials, as well as individuals in other organizations, departments, agencies, and the public.
  • Knowledge of principles of administration, planning and supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve conflict at the lowest level in a high-stress environment.
  • Ability to plan, delegate, and coordinate work.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations.
  • Ability to continually adapt, learn, retain, and utilize new concepts and procedures quickly. Be open to sudden or unexpected changes and be flexible – have a drive to succeed. Ability to problem solve by analyzing successes and failures, and provide solutions to new challenges.
  • Skill in self-identifying opportunities to improve personal weaknesses or limitations; open to multiple forms of training/development; and an understanding that different situations may call for a different skill set to a solve a problem.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement; looking at processes through a lens of curiosity to improve efficiencies and customer service.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Management experience.
  • Knowledge of court processes, procedures, rules, and guidelines, with the ability to interpret and apply them appropriately.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal laws and regulations that apply.
  • Selection process: Application materials will be screened for qualifications; the most competitive candidates will be invited for one or more panel interviews. Any employment offer will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background investigation and finger printing.
  • Work location: The primary work location for this position is the Shoreline Courthouse, located at 18050 Meridian Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133. Court Coordinators may also be assigned to work at any District Court location, including Seattle, Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue, Burien, Auburn, or Kent (MRJC), based on business needs.
  • Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise (computers, printers, light traffic). This role routinely uses standard office equipment. 
  • Special Requirements: US Citizenship is required. A contingent offer is based upon the results of criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.
