As Starbucks continues to transform Finance through data, advanced analytics, AI, and modern decision intelligence, the Decision Scientist Principal contributes to Starbucks success by defining and shaping the Finance Data Science and Decision Intelligence strategy. This role is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and advancing opportunities where data, analytics, artificial intelligence, and predictive intelligence can improve business performance, strengthen decision-making, and accelerate Finance transformation.
Success in this role requires the ability to connect business strategy to analytical opportunities, influence executive stakeholders, and drive adoption of innovative decision-support capabilities. The decision scientist principal serves as a trusted advisor to Finance leaders, helping translate strategic priorities into measurable outcomes while fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
This partner champions analytical excellence, develops organizational capability, and ensures Finance investments in analytics and decision intelligence deliver sustainable business value.
As a decision scientist principal, you will…
- Drive strategy and transformation by defining and evolving Finance’s data vision and strategy through advanced analytics, AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Enhance decision intelligence practices and deliver business value by translating complex business challenges into high-value analytical and decision support solutions and identify opportunities to improve business performance, efficiency, agility, and organizational effectiveness.
- Establish key partnerships and influence outcomes with Finance, Starbucks Technology, and other enterprise teams to drive prioritization and deliver scalable analytical capabilities and solutions.
- Foster capability building and organizational adoption through mentoring and coaching Finance data scientists by establishing best practices, skill development, and becoming a thought leader and trusted advisor for advanced analytics, AI, decision intelligence, and data driven solutions.
We’d love to hear from people with:
- BA/BS or equivalent experience
- Experience with cloud tech for data and analytics solutions (Azure, AWS)
- Expertise in Excel, SQL, Tableau / PowerBI and Python, R or other advanced analytics scripting language or experimental design platforms
- Expertise in data methodologies and skills in accordance with business applicability and insights operationalization
- Excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills
- Years of experience in specific field of designated skills: 10 years
- Preferred Qualifications
- MS concentration preferred with discipline in Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Econ, Psychology, Quantitative Social Science, or similar

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
