Global Head of Major Projects Operations - location flexible in EMEA

The Global Head of Major Projects Operations is the executive accountable for the successful delivery of the company’s most strategic, complex and visible projects worldwide. The role ensures that major projects are executed safely, profitably and predictably, transforming execution excellence into a competitive advantage. Through strong governance, proactive risk management, operational discipline and leadership development, the role provides a single point of global accountability for project performance while building the capabilities, standards and talent required to consistently deliver landmark customer commitments without surprises.

Scope

• Global ownership of Major Projects execution performance.

• Leadership of Major Project PMO, project governance and execution excellence.

• Oversight of project delivery performance across all Areas and Frontlines.

• Portfolio including mega projects, strategic projects, high-rise, infrastructure, and other designated Major Projects - marine is excluded.

Key responsibilities

1. Own Global Major Projects Delivery Performance

• Accountable for safety, customer satisfaction, schedule adherence, quality, cash flow and profitability across the Major Projects order book.

• Establish clear performance targets, reporting mechanisms and corrective action processes.

• Drive predictable outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.

2. Lead Major Projects Governance

• Contribute to define and continuously improve the global Major Projects operating model, in alignment with Global Delivery Operations and Global Major Project.

• Ensure disciplined application of project framework, stage-gate governance, risk reviews and escalation processes.

• Join executive reviews for critical projects and strategic customer commitments, in accordance with the Major Project Policy.

3. Drive Risk Management Excellence

• Establish a proactive risk culture across all Major Projects.

• Ensure early identification and mitigation of commercial, operational, contractual and execution risks.

• Lead intervention plans for critical projects, and support frontline teams during major escalations and recovery initiatives.

4. Build a World-Class MP Delivery Organization

• Develop global standards for project management, site management and execution excellence.

• Drive harmonization of best practices across Regions and Areas.

• Build a strong global pipeline of project directors, project managers and execution leaders. Sponsor succession planning and leadership development programs.

5. Partner across enterprise

• Collaborate closely with Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, Engineering, Legal and Operations leadership.

• Ensure seamless alignment between tendering, contracting, execution and lifecycle support.

• Support strategic customer relationships and executive stakeholder engagement.

• Major Project injury frequency rate and safety audit compliance

• Customer satisfaction and referenceability

• Major Project R10, R50, R50%

• Risk: number of red-status projects and recovery success rate of escalated projects

• Succession coverage for key Major Project roles

• Certification levels of project leaders, and engagement of key talents
