Job Description:
The Senior Specialist, Payroll Accounting – North America will support the North America Payroll team by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll and related payroll accounting activities. The role is responsible for preparing payroll entries and accruals, completing account reconciliations, and maintaining payroll records in accordance with company policies and audit requirements. Working closely with Payroll, Human Resources, and Finance, this position helps ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and payroll-related financial information is recorded and reported in a timely manner.
Process end to end payroll for a workforce of 700+ hourly and salaried employees across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
Review and reconcile payroll transactions, HR system changes, earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits
Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, general ledger interface files, and monthly accruals, including salaries, bonuses, taxes, and benefits
Perform monthly payroll account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting
Support month-end and year-end close activities by providing payroll accounting and reporting support
Maintain payroll records, files, and supporting documentation in accordance with audit and compliance requirements
Assist with internal and external audits and respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, HR, and Finance
Participate in payroll, HRIS, and Finance projects, identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and efficiency
Serve as backup for Payroll Manager responsibilities during absences.
Perform other payroll and accounting-related duties as assigned
Knowledge & Experience (essential):
3+ years hands on processing payroll with hourly and exempt employees
3+ years preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations
1+ years working with ADP, preferably Workforce Now
Advanced Excel skills including common formulas (i.e. VLookup, IF statements, Pivot Tables, etc.)
Knowledge & Experience (preferred):
Must work well in a team environment and have a willingness to collaborate and share ideas
Excellent analytical skills are required, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical materials and concepts in a non-technical manner
Ability to hold information confidential
Education / Certifications (essential):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field experience
Education / Certifications (preferred):
CPP Preferred
Language(s) (essential):
Fluent in English.
