Job Title: Acoustic Engineer

Reports to: Acoustic R&D Lead

Department: Automotive, Peerless

Location: Bridgend, UK

Job Summary:

As the Automotive industry continues to evolve in an unprecedented and historical pace, the need for new audio solutions is ever present. It is Tymphanys intention to play a leading role in this new vehicle audio landscape. It is within this role that we will drive the innovation in this market. This job encompasses the development of industry leading automotive transducers and systems from early development to manufacturing. An Acoustic Engineer in this role is expected to work alongside the Mechanical Engineering team to ensure products are designed with quality, cost and timing in mind. A person doing this role is fully responsible for the Acoustic performance of the products they are working on. An acoustic engineer is responsible for keeping all historical design data is kept following internal and Tymphany procedures. The Acoustic Engineer will also work with the Acoustic Team to ensure facilities, equipment, procedures, etc. are all up-to-date and aligned with current needs. As Tymphany is a global company, an Acoustic Engineer is expected to work collaboratively with all other departments of the business ensuring projects run smoothly. A mix of simulations, measurements, prototype builds, validation and documentation is the core of the responsibilities of this role, and innovation is highly encouraged!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Own full transducer projects from an acoustic standpoint, including modelling, prototyping, testing, and optimisation.
  • Optimise designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability in coordination with production teams.
  • Independent modelling, design, and validation of transducers using simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL).
  • Develop and test prototypes, iterating designs based on acoustic and mechanical performance.
  • Lead setup and execution of detailed electroacoustic measurements and reliability tests.
  • Analyse acoustic data to support design decisions and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to BOM generation, tolerance analysis, and documentation for mass production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate transducer systems into final products.
  • Own the generation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including design specifications and test reports.
  • Participate in the invention disclosure process by documenting novel design concepts and test methods to support the filing of patents and protection of company IP.
  • Create and participate in internal process development and improvements.
  • Assist in mentoring interns and graduate engineers.
  • Attend trainings, seminars, conferences and industry events to promote Tymphany/Peerless Automotive vertical.
  • Travel to other Tymphany sites to support global projects.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in acoustics, audio engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Self-motivated, passionate about audio and have a genuine interest in electroacoustics.
  • Solid experience in transducer design, modelling, and testing and solid foundation in electroacoustic theory and transducer.
  • Proficient with acoustic simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL) and measurement systems (e.g. Klippel, APx).
  • Able to manage full acoustic aspects of projects independently.
  • Proactive and curious, with a passion for solving technical problems.
  • Eager to grow expertise through hands-on development and mentorship but also independently.
  • Team-oriented with effective communication across disciplines with collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable interacting with customers to support technical discussions and clarify requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with acoustic engineering judgment.
  • Organised and capable of handling multiple tasks within defined deadlines, strong self-management skills.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Comfortable interpreting test data and contributing to technical discussions.
  • Creative and pragmatic in applying engineering solutions.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Previous Automotive experience and background.
  • Experience working in a multinational company.
