Description

The R&D Discovery and Technology Futures group is looking for a creative and energetic Genomics Scientist to be at the forefront of innovating the next generation of IDEXX products. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, inquisitive, and excel in a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment. In this role you will specialize in developing molecular assays (PCR based); performing data analyses and analytical validation. You will join a group of highly talented, technically focused individuals working together to identify solutions to complex challenges. This will require you to exercise your analytical and creative thought-process, sound judgement, strong communications skills, and curiosity.

Why This Role Matters:

At IDEXX, cutting-edge technologies in genomics are playing an increasingly important role in advancing pet health diagnostics, and this position directly contributes to that work. As a Scientist II in the Genomics group, you will design, develop, and validate PCR-based molecular assays that support molecular assay development across the Discovery pipeline. Working collaboratively with a talented, multi-disciplinary team, you will help translate experimental data into scientific insights that move projects forward. Your work will directly enable accurate diagnoses for millions of pets, and support the veterinarians and pet owners who care for them.

  • Collaborate with peers and cross-functional teams, contributing technical expertise to assay development and helping troubleshoot methods and interpret data.

  • Partner with bioinformatics, assay development, and product teams to translate molecular and sequencing data into actionable insights.

  • Manage a multi-project workload independently — balancing bench work (nucleic acid isolation, assay design and optimization) with data analysis and reporting.

  • Skilled across PCR-based assay development (PCR, qPCR, dPCR) from experimental design through validation and analysis.

  • Contribute to adopting new methods and technologies, evaluating protocols and helping document SOPs.

In this role, you will:

  • Isolate nucleic acids from diverse and challenging sample types

  • Design, perform, validate, and optimize assays and experiments. Prepare materials, gather data, carry out analysis and reach conclusions.

  • Author technical reports detailing procedures and results.

  • Effectively present data and concepts to various audiences.

  • Learn and effectively implement novel experimental protocols and/or techniques.

What you need to succeed:

  • A degree in life sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's with 6 years of industrial experience or Master’s degree with 4 years of industrial experience is required.

  • Experience with various molecular assay formats and analysis (e.g. PCR, qPCR, dPCR) is required.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

  • Organizational skills and ability to plan work is a must.

  • Takes initiative and is accountable (shows ownership); focuses on task at hand; detail oriented.

What you can expect from us:

  • Salary range starting at $90,000 based on experience

  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus

  • Health / Dental / Vision Benefits Day-One

  • 5% matching 401k

  • Additional benefits including but not limited to financial support, pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, employee stock program, foundation donation matching, and much more

If you’re looking for a role that’ll challenge you, offer a variety of work and learning, while helping an amazing industry, we’d love to hear from you!

Why IDEXX:

We’re proud of the work we do, because our work matters.
