Job Description
Energy Market Analyst
We are looking for an Energy Market Analyst to join our Reliability & Market Support team. This cross-functional team plays a key role in supporting Alberta's electricity markets and grid reliability by administering market access, supporting customer connections, procuring ancillary services, developing operational tools and requirements, and advancing solutions to meet evolving system needs.
About the Role
As an Energy Market Analyst, you will work directly with customers and industry stakeholders to support grid and market access, administer market systems, coordinate key operational processes, and contribute to initiatives that enhance Alberta's electricity market. You will manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, provide customer support, analyze data to inform decision-making, and collaborate with colleagues across the AESO to address complex challenges and support the transition to the Restructured Energy Market (REM).

What You’ll Do
Administer market access systems, maintain records, and review and implement requests to enroll as a market participant and add or change assets.
Provide training and technical support for customers who participate in the energy and AS markets, referring them to engineers or IT specialists when required.
Manage contracts, agreements, qualifications, and payments for system access.
Be the first point of contact between the AESO and electricity market participants.
Identify opportunities to improve Market Support processes and find efficiencies.
Develop and publish processes, application procedures, forms and requirements related to grid and market access.
Comply with AESO policies including health and safety, internal compliance, provision of information related to authoritative documents, records management, and others.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
3-5 years of experience in the utilities industry or a related sector.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Experience developing, documenting, or implementing business processes.
Proven ability to solve problems and achieve results in a collaborative business environment.
Knowledge of the Alberta electricity market, Alberta Interconnected Electric System, and/or generation operations is considered an asset.
Experience working with databases is considered an asset.
