Peer Learning Advisor

• Casual Opportunity - HEO 4 Step 1 $56.85 per hour. Commencing Semester 2 2026
• Provide invaluable support to students in Library / Learning spaces on Camperdown and Conservatorium Campus
• Only currently enrolled Postgraduate Coursework or Higher Degree Research HDR students at the University of Sydney with a planned completion date later than Semester 1, 2028 are eligible to apply for this role.

 

About the opportunity 

The Peer Learning Advisor will provide roving peer to peer support to students in a number of Library and other study areas. This role is based at Camperdown Campus and shifts may include the Quarter, ThinkSpace, Susan Wakil Health Building (CreateSpace), Conservatorium Library and other locations as required. 

Students with advanced experience in 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and other digital fabrication technologies are highly encouraged to apply. Please describe your relevant skills and hands‑on experience in your application.

 

Your key responsibilities (but not limited to) will be to: 

• facilitate relevant workshops, services, forums, and online communities to engage and help students from a range of disciplines
• facilitate use of ThinkSpace and CreateSpace technology such as the 3D printer, Recording Studio, Laser Cutter, CNC machine, Virtual Reality etc
• facilitate and support events for students in library spaces
• seek feedback and input from client groups and stakeholders to tailor service provision.
• deliver Library services using a range of technology and troubleshooting issues under guidance
• assist in library, technology, online learning, and other support services
• assist in developing web-based resources, technological and other services aimed at assisting and supporting students
• day to day maintenance of the library spaces, including facilities, equipment, and technology

 

 About you

• currently enrolled as a Postgraduate Coursework or Higher Degree Research student at the University of Sydney with an understanding of the student experience. Must have a planned completion date later than Semester 1, 2028
• positive approach to customer service, with a commitment to ensuring clients’ needs and expectations are met
• technology skills including the ability to pick up new systems, technology, and perform basic troubleshooting with tech in the library’s two technology spaces, ThinkSpace and CreateSpace
• effective problem-solving skills and ability to escalate and follow up on issues appropriately
• demonstrated teamwork and communication skills
• demonstrated initiative, attention to detail and prioritisation skills
• hold a valid Working with Children Check for staff

Note:  HDR students who meet the criteria are strongly encouraged to apply.

4. Optional Question (highly favourable): Do you possess any skills in 3D printing, CNC machine or Laser-cutting skills and if so, how have you applied these skills in previous projects or experiences?
