Associate Dean Teaching and Learning

Start date (dependent on successful completion of relevant checks)

01 August 2026

The role

Northeastern University London (NU London) is seeking Teaching and Learning (T&L) assistants to support the delivery of its Global Experience programmes.

Unlike course-specific roles, these positions sit centrally within T&L and operate across the full breadth of the Global Experience programmes. The postholders will work flexibly across faculties to support the operational and logistical dimensions of teaching and learning — enabling faculty to focus on pedagogical and academic work.

No subject-specialist knowledge is required. What is required is academic experience, reliability, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a genuine commitment to student experience.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment Support

  • Support the running of in-class assessments, including timed tasks, structured in-class exams, and supervised written activities.
  • Assist with the administration and marking of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) assessments using provided answer sheets and, where applicable, scanning or machine-marking equipment, working in coordination with the Assessment team.
  • Prepare, collate, print, distribute, and collect non-examination assessment materials (e.g. assignment briefs, in-class task sheets) in coordination with faculty and the Assessment team.
  • Support the implementation of accessibility arrangements during assessments, including additional time provisions, in liaison with relevant colleagues and services.

Teaching and Learning Operations

  • Work with Student life and faculty to provide logistical support to faculty delivering experiential and co-curricular activities — managing session mechanics (timings, group rotations, polling tools, room configuration, and AV and technology checks) where this falls outside normal classroom delivery.

Canvas and Learning Technology Support

  • Work with the VLE Manager to provide first-line Canvas support to faculty, including basic course shell checks against institutional templates, and troubleshooting assessment set up or gradebook issues, escalating technical or configuration queries to the Canvas Manager as appropriate.

Student Experience and T&L Administration

  • Support Teaching & Learning and Global Experience Team in the smooth planning and running of the US credit courses.
  • Support student relations and the collection of student feedback in coordination with the T&L and GE teams.

Person specification criteria

To undertake this role, the following should apply – should you not have the experience below, please do highlight where transferrable skills would assist with you undertaking the role.  Unless specified, all criteria are considered essential.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area
  • PhD completed, or near completion, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (desirable)
  • AFHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)

Key Criteria

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities across different teams and settings.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in relation to following procedural instructions.
  • Confident and professional in communicating with students and academic staff.
  • Comfortable working with digital tools and platforms, including Canvas.
  • Ability to work flexibly and responsively in a fast-paced, student-facing environment.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and a positive student experience.
