Job Description

Position Function: In collaboration with the Director of Orientation and other Enrollment Planning & Management leadership staff, support the Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Orientation in meeting its enrollment and retention goals through the planning and implementation of recruitment and yield initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the undergraduate orientation leader team for Ball State’s Orientation programs alongside co-Assistant Director.

2. Support the planning and implementation of Ball State’s on-campus orientation programs, as well as Ball State’s online orientation modules.

3. Support the execution of communication plans for Ball State’s Orientation programs, including email communication, mailed pieces, and social media.

4. Actively participate in professional development to ensure Ball State’s Orientation programs are innovative in meeting the needs of our incoming students and their families. This will include attendance at regional and national NODA Conferences.

5. Manage recruitment territory; extensive travel for approximately eight to ten weeks; possess working knowledge and familiarity of high schools and school counselors in assigned market area to include visit policy, enrollment history (into Ball State), and academic profile of each high school; provide support with targeted recruitment visits to feeder high schools, attend fall and spring visits to attract prospective students by collaborating with the Associate Director of Recruitment for Admissions regarding which schools to visit, making decisions independently regarding timing and scheduling of visits, performing appropriate follow-up, cultivating non-productive high schools, maintaining positive relationships with school counselor professionals, and assessing market culture to meet enrollment goals.

6. Perform application file review; evaluate and execute admission decisions and offer appropriate follow-up by exercising autonomy and sound judgment.

7. Represent the university to prospective students, their families, school counselors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process, on and off campus, through group presentations, phone calls, e-mails, and one-on-one meetings; communicate with various audiences including students of various ages; counsel prospective students and families; make decisions about appropriate follow-up; present positive and professional image of Ball State University.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned including working a flexible schedule e.g. weekends, evenings and overnights during travel.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment.
At least one year of relevant experience based upon job qualifications and the provided rankings of the required responsibilities.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral) with a customer service orientation; ability to speak before large groups or audiences; comfort and experience with computer technology; ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment; possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in student affairs, education, communication, or related field.
