Description
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. May exercise technical and functional direction over lower-level staff.
Class Characteristics
This journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing complex technical maintenance and repair work on heavy road and bridge maintenance and construction equipment. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Three (3) years of experience in performing skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy vehicles and equipment, including experience working on diesel engines.
Possession of, or successful acquisition of a valid California Class A Driver’s License within six (6) months of appointment, to be maintained throughout employment.
A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
