Job Summary:

Provides leadership in all Respiratory Care procedures in a critical care environment by practicing evidence-based medicine through respiratory care protocols. Functions at a role model level, participates in quality, research, and education assignments. Applies the respiratory care process to plan and manage the care of complex patients in a comprehensive manner. Assists in developing and meeting key Pillar outcomes and system improvement goals. Serves in an advocacy role on behalf of patients, families, and caregivers to ensure safe, equitable healthcare provision. Ensures evidence-based care and continuously monitors patient outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according Board of Respiratory Care standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze and recommends appropriate treatment and therapy for patients requiring Respiratory Care.
• Maintains direct involvement with patients participating in research projects or quality improvement projects.
• Provides formal content approved in-service education for medical team.
• (VUH) Member of the Critical Care Respiratory Care team a critical care unit or the Emergency Department Regularly, is assigned to a Critical Care Unit or Emergency Department >75 % of the worked schedule.(VCH) Member of one of the following specialty teams: (First Breath, NICU, ED, Critical Resource, PICU/PCICU, Acute Care, Pediatric Transport Team).
• The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
• Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements respiratory care delivery while anticipating patient care needs.
• Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine respiratory care diagnosis.
• Continually utilizes the respiratory care guidelines and protocols to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.

**Night Shift**

** The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked full-time for VUMC in the past twelve months.


Technical Capabilities:
• Training & Development (Advanced): Demonstrated the value of humor, spontaneity and flexibility in course delivery. Interactively coaches and consults with audience and other instructors. Demonstrated the ability to facilitate the learning process and allow responsibility for learning to be owned by the participants. Understands related trends, needs and influences beyond the scope of the course content and can weave that information into delivery.
• Evidence-Based Practice (Intermediate): Demonstrates ability to integrate evidence from multiple sources and determine if a practice change should occur. Shares knowledge with peers and other clinical team members independently.
• Laboratory Testing & Analysis (Advanced): Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of laboratory tests to diverse areas of the department. Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in laboratory testing in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers laboratory tests and analysis in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Contributes in the development of testing and analysis best practices for the organization. Able to converse intelligently with users, customers, and management on the impact of laboratory testing technology and competition on the business itself.
• Ventilator Management (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying ventilator management in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers ventilator management services in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Actively participates in outside professional organizations and forums. Contributes in the development of ventilator management best practices for the organization.
• Respiratory Therapeutic Procedures (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying respiratory therapeutic procedures in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers respiratory therapeutic procedures in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Actively participates in outside professional organizations and forums. Contributes in the development of respiratory therapeutic procedures best practices for the organization.
