Billing Specialist I

Summary:

This position is responsible for circulation billing processes for assigned properties (newspapers) owned by MediaNews Group. This includes home delivery, single-copy, commercial delivery, and carrier payments.

What you will do:

• Generate billing files for assigned properties, ensuring data accuracy prior to submission

• Enter returns and check for accuracy

• Process adjustments for carriers and single-copy accounts

• Ensure carrier pay files are submitted to AP for timely payment

• Manage subscriber refunds

• Work with Circulation Operations and the GL team to resolve discrepancies and provide support

• Collaborate with other billing team members to manage shared mailboxes

• Take initiative to refine procedures, use tact and diplomacy in servicing the client and communicating with others

• Accurately interpret financial documents, corporate policies, and standard operating procedures

What you will bring:

• Knowledge of accounting processes and controls

• Strong written communication skills with a focus on drafting clear, structured, and professional email correspondence

• Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors

• Demonstrated ability to create Excel spreadsheets using formulas as needed

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

• Associate’s degree preferred, but not required

• 1–3 years of billing experience preferred, but not required

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly wage is $18.50. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
