About the Role
McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) is seeking a Senior Full Stack AI Software Engineer to help build and modernize the next generation of pharmacy technology solutions. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy cloud-based applications using Java, Angular, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Azure, and modern AI-assisted engineering tools.
Working closely with product managers, architects, and engineering teams, you will play a key role in delivering scalable, secure, and highly reliable software solutions that support critical pharmacy operations using an AI-native SDLC methodology. This is a hands-on engineering position that combines application development, technical leadership, cloud-native architecture, and AI-enabled software engineering practices.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and deploy full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using modern architecture principles and OpenAPI/Swagger standards.
- Leverage approved AI development tools, including GitHub Copilot and Claude, to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing coverage and efficiency
- Evaluate AI-generated code for security, performance, scalability, maintainability, and functional accuracy.
- Develop user interfaces and administrative tools that support business workflows and operational efficiency.
- Create scalable, event-driven solutions using technologies such as Kafka and distributed messaging platforms.
- Architect and optimize core AI agent orchestration layer and runtime harness to handle complex, multi-step task execution, model routing
- Ensure end-to-end quality across user interfaces, APIs, databases, integrations, and event-driven services.
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous delivery best practices.
- Utilize observability and monitoring tools to improve application reliability and production support.
- Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design discussions.
- Mentor engineers through knowledge sharing, design collaboration, and engineering best practices.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions in an Agile environment.
Basic Requirements
Minimum Education & Typical Experience or Equivalent Combination
Degree or equivalent experience and typically requires 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of software development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful API development.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted software development tools and workflows.
- Experience developing web applications using Angular, React, Vue, Next.js, or similar JavaScript frameworks.
- Robust experience designing low-latency agent execution looks that natively manage multi-step tool execution (harness, orchestrator concepts)
- Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases, including PostgreSQL.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
- Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience developing and executing automated tests.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and production support skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native application development.
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
- Experience using ORM technologies such as Hibernate or JPA.
- Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies.
- Experience with feature management tools such as LaunchDarkly or Optimizely.
- Experience with database migration tools such as Liquibase or Flyway.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools, including Dynatrace.
- Experience working with distributed tracing, metrics, and structured logging.
- Previous experience in healthcare, pharmacy, or highly regulated industries.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate will work onsite at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. In-office days may vary based on business and team needs.

General office work requiring extended periods of sitting, computer use, communication, and collaboration in both virtual and in-person environments.
