FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

Location: Cape Town CBD

About the Role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our group based in Cape Town CBD. The group’s primary activities include property leasing and investments in listed equities.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant accounting degree and will ideally have completed a three-year SAICA or SAIPA articles training programme. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the group’s financial operations, reporting, budgeting and forecasting, while ensuring accurate accounting records and effective financial controls.

Please note: Interviews will be conducted in person at the group’s Cape Town offices.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following, including but not limited to:

Financial Accounting and Processing

• Capture and process creditor invoices accurately and timeously.
• Issue rental and service-related invoices.
• Process journal entries and ensure the accuracy of accounting records.
• Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Capture and process bank payments.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations.

Tax and Financial Reconciliations

• Prepare VAT returns and ensure accurate and timely submissions.
• Calculate and reconcile interest received and interest payable.
• Calculate and reconcile dividends received and dividends payable.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of relevant financial transactions and supporting documentation.

Management Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting

• Prepare weekly and monthly management accounts.
• Assist with financial reporting and provide accurate financial information to support management decision-making.
• Prepare detailed annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Maintain accurate financial records to support effective financial planning and monitoring.

Audit and Financial Controls

• Assist with and ensure the timely completion of the annual audit process.
• Prepare and provide supporting schedules and documentation required for the annual audit.
• Implement and maintain appropriate accounting controls and procedures.
• Promote accuracy, consistency and compliance across financial processes.

Minimum Requirements

• A relevant accounting degree.
• Preferably, completion of a three-year SAICA or SAIPA articles training programme.
• A sound understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of VAT returns, reconciliations and general accounting processes.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• The ability to work independently, manage deadlines and maintain accurate financial records.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and audit preparation, while maintaining sound accounting controls and procedures.
