The Oregon Department of Justice’s Trial Division is seeking a Legal Support Services Manager 1 to guide and strengthen the work of the Trial Division.
In this position, you will offer strategic leadership to a small team of seasoned paraprofessionals and the Legal Support Services Supervisor 2, while providing indirect oversight of the Legal Support Services Supervisor 1. You will guide recruitment and staff development, ensure consistent, high‑quality legal support practices, and work closely with Trial Division leadership on workflow, policy execution, and performance management. Your leadership will directly impact the efficiency and precision of legal support across high‑volume discovery and document‑heavy matters.
This position will serve as a vital contributor to the development and continual refinement of division policies, procedures, and best practices. It will also help assess and enhance eDiscovery platforms to ensure they remain effective and aligned with evolving needs. In addition, the role will coordinate and deliver training aimed at promoting consistency, building expertise, and supporting high‑quality work across the entire division. The insight and leadership provided in this position will help ensure the Trial Division remains adaptable, efficient, and well‑equipped to respond to the changing landscape of discovery.

Job Duties (in part)
- Exercise full supervisory authority over small team of paraprofessionals in the Trial Division, including one subordinate supervisor, overseeing recruitment, hiring, promotion, performance management, coaching, and discipline, and collaborating with Trial Division leadership to resolve employee grievances.
- Contribute to developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and operational improvements related to eDiscovery and eDiscovery platforms, identifying improvement opportunities and leading eDiscovery change to support Trial Division goals.
- Identify training needs, coordinate or deliver development opportunities, and contribute to Trial Division eDiscovery training programs aligned with strategic goals.
- Participate in legal case staffing with attorneys and legal teams, review paraprofessional work for accuracy and compliance, ensure documentation, evidence, and exhibits meet legal standards, and adjust workloads within the assigned unit.
- Review paraprofessional billing, invoices, and eDiscovery contracts for accuracy and compliance, compile data, prepare management‑requested reports, and recommend fiscal and resource allocations needed to support service in the Trial Division.
- Participate directly in paraprofessional work as needed during peak workload periods, staff shortages, or urgent operational demands.
- Assist with complex or sensitive tasks requiring higher‑level coordination or problem‑solving to ensure continuity of service and timely completion of work.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall function and effectiveness of the Trial Division based on operational needs, organizational priorities, and emerging projects.

Required Experience

- Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR two years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field, AND
- Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
- Preference may be given to those with two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional.
