Title: Director, Logistics Spend & Strategy
Location: Warsaw
Model: hybrid 3+2
The Clinical Manufacturing and Supply (CM&S) function is accountable for the supply of medicines to support AstraZeneca’s clinical trials. This includes planning, drug substance manufacture, drug product manufacture, packaging, labelling and distribution to depots / clinical investigator sites.
The Clinical Logistics team within CM&S has the accountability to ensure the distribution and logistics requirements of our supply chains are being met.
Reporting to the Senior Director Clinical Logistics and part of the Clinical Logistics team, the role will manage the CM&S Logistics budget and spend. Delivering operational, tactical and strategic activities and improvements relating to that area.
Job Responsibilities:
Sub-area owner: Logistics Spend Management and Strategy:
- Ownership of the CM&S Logistics budget.
- Ownership of business processes and solutions to effectively manage all logistics costs within CM&S.
- Creation and execution of a ‘Cost to Serve’ model whereby logistics costs are managed within the function, and costs are allocated to appropriate clinical study / project cost centres.
- Creation and maintenance of network-wide spend visibility capabilities.
- Creation and execution of spend auditing and billing accuracy capabilities.
- Accountable for delivering strategic changes to unlock new value and performance improvements, including:
- Identification and execution of Import VAT, duty and logistics spend optimisation opportunities.
- Sub-process ownership: define and maintain SOPs/work instructions and business processes, aligned with the CM&S Logistics Business Process Owner’s (BPO) objectives.
- Digital, Systems and tools: Act as the business owner for digital tools/systems relevant to the sub-area.
- Data stewardship: Set data standards, ensure master/reference data quality, and drive data-driven visibility (dashboards/analytics) to support decisions and continuous improvement.
- Risk and compliance: Maintain financial compliance, documentation accuracy; ensure audit readiness and effective CAPA.
- Continuous improvement: Identify and implement changes that reduce lead times, variability, manual effort, and cost while improving service reliability.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- A minimum of 6 years prior experience within a supply chain/logistics environment.
- Working knowledge of the logistics industry and the various government agencies and regulations involved with the distribution of products.
- Experience of managing large and complex logistics budgets.
- Appropriate business and financial acumen.
- Advanced Digital, AI and data literacy.
- Experience of delivering significant improvement projects and strategic changes.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team player, with the ability to identify and communicate key issues for resolution.
- Ability to effectively interact and influence with all levels within functional areas, customers, outside service providers and with external regulatory authorities.
- Ability to evaluate/manage relationships with outside service partners.
- Fluent English ability.
Desirable
- Degree in Supply Chain / logistics or other relevant business discipline.
- Experience with lean tools and methodologies.
- Familiarity of the pharmaceutical/clinical supply chain environment.
